Beast Media Group announces a Paranormal Activity virtual reality game, with a playable demo accompanying select showings of the new film this weekend.

Moviegoers that want to see the final Paranormal Activity film are going to have a little difficulty finding a theater actually carrying the movie this weekend, thanks to Paramount's plan to release the film digitally not long after its theatrical run rubbing theater chains the wrong way. However, those that do still plan on seeing Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension this weekend should consider heading to their local AMC theater to watch it, as they may be in for an additional gaming treat.

In a promotional stunt sponsored by Epic Games, HTC, Nvidia, Paramount Pictures, and Valve, select AMC theaters across the United States from October 22nd to October 24th will feature a playable demo of a newly announced Paranormal Activity game set to launch in 2016.

A list of the AMC theaters confirmed to have the demo can be found below:

  • AMC Loews White Marsh 16 – Baltimore, MD
  • AMC Neshaminy 24 – Bensalem, PA
  • AMC Loews Boston Common 19 – Boston, MA

The Paranormal Activity video game will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One when it releases next year, with compatibility planned for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and PlayStation VR. Interestingly enough, there will also be a non-VR version of the Paranormal Activity game for the aforementioned platforms as well. This is just as well, considering the Xbox One won't be compatible with Oculus Rift for quite some time.

While gamers will no doubt be familiar with the platforms the game will be available on, chances are they haven't heard of the company making the game, Beast Media Group. From the looks of it, the Paranormal Activity VR project appears to be the first video game from the company, but their development team reportedly includes veterans of Call of DutyMetal Gear Solid, and more, so it should be of some quality, at least.

Further details on the game remain scarce beyond that it's played from the first-person perspective, but one would imagine that it would deal with a demon terrorizing the player in their home, like in the films. It's likely that the game will feature little to no combat, and instead primarily center around the player exploring the environment and experiencing jump scares, but this is purely speculation at this point.

The Paranormal Activity game, both the VR and the non-VR version, will be available in 2016 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
