In 2018 Epic Games shut down the servers for its third-person MOBA Paragon due to its dwindling playerbase. In 2020, fans of the unique and visually impressive game are bringing it back. Predecessor is a "remake" of Paragon leveraging assets made available with Epic's Unreal Engine. Today, the development team dropped a new teaser for Predecessor's closed alpha.

Following Paragon being shutdown, Epic Games made all of the assets associated with Paragon freely available via the Unreal Engine Marketplace. That makes it a viable goal to recreate Paragon from the ground up using Epic's own assets. The rest of the game is likely all original, newly built by the dev team at Omeda Studios.

Omeda Studios does make clear that while Predecessor is a game that "looks and feels" like Paragon, it is not an exact copy. The dev team will likely be making changes to Paragon's formula, though those changes have yet to be described. One thing that is going to be the same is that Predecessor will eventually have all of Paragon's characters.

Due to Epic Games making Paragon's assets available for free use and Omeda developing everything else on its own, Predecessor can technically be released across multiple platforms. It can even be monetized. As such, the potential for Predecessor is high. For those interested in seeing what Predecessor is all about, whether they're Paragon fans or new to the game, Omeda is currently accepting Closed Alpha applications.

Predecessor is currently in development for PC.
