Ready at Dawn, the developer of The Order: 1886 and God of War: Ghost of Sparta, is announcing a new game next week. It will be GameStop's second publishing project.

GameStop's first foray into publishing, Insomniac Games' Song of the Deep, was revealed about four months ago. Since then the retail chain has announced that Song of the Deep is just the first of four projects it is funding as part of the GameTrust initiative. The other developers include Frozenbyte and Tequila Works, which continue to work on their unannounced projects, and Ready at Dawn. GameStop took the opportunity today to tease the upcoming unveiling of Ready at Dawn's project next week.

The news broke during a GameStop earnings call earlier today, when COO Tony Bartel said this:

"Next week, we will be announcing our second game under development, with Ready at Dawn."

Sure, it's rather to the point and not exactly the hype-building exercise fans expect from teasers these days, but it does the job. Bartel is talking to investors after all, not those most interested in the game itself. Bartel also clarified that the retailer would see returns on both physical copies of the game and digital copies, rather than solely boxes sold at the counter. He also mentioned potential profits from collectibles and toys if the game ends up having those.

Ready at Dawn is an independent studio that has up until now worked almost exclusively with Sony. Five of Ready at Dawn's six games are PlayStation platform exclusives, ranging from Daxter to God of War: Ghost of Sparta. It's their most recent project, however, that likely led to a breakup with Sony and a new partnership with GameStop. That title is of course The Order: 1886, which while beautiful, was received quite poorly overall.

It's unlikely that Ready at Dawn's game with GameStop will be of the same scale as The Order: 1886, given the short turnaround since the team's last game and their reported efforts working on multiple concurrent projects. Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Ready at Dawn, Andrea Pessino, said last year that this is the, "most fun I've ever had making game." Hopefully next week will result in a closer look at just what the fun is all about -- it can't be worse than almost four years working on The Order: 1886.

Expect more news on Ready at Dawn's new game next week, published as part of GameStop's GameTrust partnership program.
