Xbox One Cross Platform Achievements

Microsoft hasn't had a whole lot of enthusiasm curved its way for the Xbox One. After confirming a number of controversial features for the new video game console, gamers of all preferences started taking shots at the next-gen console and its less-than-ideal policies. While the likes of DRM restrictions and mandatory daily Internet connection were the subjects of much scrutiny, Microsoft has since back peddled on the philosophies in favor of much more user-friendly ones.

Still, much is largely unknown about the Xbox One, which is why IGN has created a thread in which it asks Microsoft questions pertaining to its forthcoming platform. One such question that many gamers have been wondering is whether or not cross-platform titles (i.e. Titanfall and Call of Duty: Ghosts) will utilize the same list of achievements. According to Xbox One architect Marc Whitten, achievements from titles that appear on both 360 and One will be completely separate from one another.

"Every game has its own set of achievements, so if you’re playing Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox 360 and on Xbox One, you can earn a separate set of Gamerscore in each game. But on the Xbox One version, you’re getting a much richer set of features, such as seeing your achievements progress on the Xbox One console, being able to unlock new achievements throughout the year, and earning real prizes inside and outside of the game. Xbox One also enables a new concept of challenges, where games will be offering special time-based opportunities to earn various goals and collect the rewards."

This revelation isn't at all surprising given the new option that developers have to modify achievement lists on the Xbox One. Couple that with the fact that it's entirely new hardware, and dedicated achievement junkies have a reason to upgrade to the Xbox One's dynamic and ever evolving chievo system. As PlayStation users are already familiar with, cross-platform PS3/Vita titles (such as PlayStation All-Stars) also have their own separate trophy lists, which makes this revelation even less shocking. Regardless, it's an interesting thing to know for those who plan on owning both consoles.

What do you think of Microsoft separating the achievement lists for cross-platform Xbox 360 and Xbox One games, Ranters?
