According to a new report from Wall Street Journal, Nintendo is planning to unveil details about its new flagship console, the Nintendo NX, in early October.

Now that Sony has officially announced the PlayStation 4 Pro, gamers are anxiously awaiting details for the next major console announcement: the Nintendo NX. Aside from a handful of rumors and a smattering of potential launch titles, there’s currently very little known about Nintendo’s upcoming console.

Fortunately for gamers, it looks like the wait for Nintendo NX details may be coming to an end. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Nintendo is expected to release NX details by early October, just a few weeks away. This is good news considering the console is set to go on sale in March 2017 and Nintendo will likely want to start drumming up excitement for its next major flagship device.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it will undoubtedly build confidence in gamers’ minds about Nintendo’s commitment to greater communication about its consoles. Nintendo’s America president, Reggie Fils-Aime, recently shared some thoughts about Nintendo’s need to provide better communication about the NX than it did about the WiiU. Fils-Aime said:

One of the things that we have to do better when we launch the NX--we have to do a better job communicating the positioning for the product. We have to do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience.

If the gaming giant does indeed begin providing details in October, that would give Nintendo six months to disseminate information about the console, its unique features, and the planned launch titles. That’s plenty of time to build hype for the device and quell any fears or concerns gamers may have once the full details are released.

It will be interesting to see how many of the current rumors floating around turn out to be true for the Nintendo NX. From the name to the touch screen and detachable controller, there are a lot of potential unique features coming that could easily make or break the new Nintendo console.

It’s worth noting that the timing for releasing information about the Nintendo NX in October may prove to be positive for Nintendo. Now that Microsoft and Sony have shown their hands with the Xbox One S and PlayStation 4 Pro, Nintendo can plan its reveal around the feedback the first two manufacturers received about their respective consoles. While it’s already expected that the Nintendo NX won’t be as powerful as either of its two counterparts, Nintendo sill has an extensive amount of pull among gamers, especially when it comes to Nintendo-exclusive games.

Speaking of games, Fils-Aime shared some thoughts about Nintendo’s commitment to providing a strong lineup of games both at the Nintendo NX launch and going forward. It seems Nintendo is well aware of the competition it faces and the need to keep Nintendo console owners happy. He said:

We have to do a better job from a software planning standpoint to have that continuous beat of great new games that are motivating more and more people to pick up the hardware and more and more people to pick up the software.

There’s a lot to look forward to with the Nintendo NX detail unveiling, and with the potential of an early October timeline, gamers are free to let the excitement build for the big reveal.
