Nintendo Direct Wednesday January 22 2013

Early adopters have been playing their Wii U for a couple of months already, and they've had plenty of content to enjoy right from the get-go. Now gamers are beginning to wonder what kind of games will be coming down the pipes for the new system in the near future. There are a handful of confirmed exclusives, as well as multiplatform titles, scheduled to arrive on the system within the coming months, but the house of Mario knows that its fans want something a little more.

That's presumably why the Big N has announced plans to release a brand new Nintendo Direct on Wednesday morning for North American, Japanese, and European fans. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata will once again be hosting the presentation, but it's unknown which titles will be addressed during the global briefing. According to Nintendo's UK Twitter account, however, the games being showcased in the Nintendo Direct will be new.

Whether or not this means Ninty was simply referring to new titles like Pikmin 3 or Bayonetta 2 is up for debate, but the company did just release a schedule filled with release dates for a number of previously confirmed Wii U and 3DS games; making an info drop on those titles appear even less likely.

The return of a number of familiar franchises is a given on the new Nintendo console, but it would be nice to see something on Super Smash Bros. 4 or even the leaked Yoshi's Land. Heck, a new IP would be a welcomed addition to the Wii U as well. Fortunately, gamers won't be waiting long to find out which products Nintendo plans on revealing, but those interested in seeing more can tune into the latest Nintendo Direct at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET tomorrow morning.

The last Nintendo Direct confirmed the existence of Pokemon X and Y, and solidified a global release month for the pair of games — much to the delight of 3DS owners across the world. From the sounds of it, this new presentation has the potential to deliver an announcement (or announcements) just as significant as the company's previous Direct.
