Nintendo 64 Games Wii U Virtual Console

It's no secret that the Wii U is lacking in terms of software. While great games like Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World have managed to garner some attention for the struggling platform as of late, those that have invested in the console are still hungry for more.

One way Nintendo has been providing the Wii U install base with content is via its Virtual Console service, and (after releasing Game Boy Advance titles for the hardware) it looks as if the Nintendo 64 library will finally be making an appearance.

Previously available on the Wii, the Nintendo 64 was once a highlight on the Virtual Console service before failing to make the transition to the system's successor. Gamers have eagerly been awaiting the debut of 64 software on the Wii U for quite some time, and now the official Nintendo website has informed fans that they should stay tuned for updates on which titles will be appearing on the console in the near future.

"Check back regularly for the latest releases, including the future addition of titles from the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 64 systems."

There's no question that there are some beloved games that released on the Nintendo 64 and that it'll be great for longtime fans and Wii U owners to re-experience those classics again, but the premise of releasing these games for download on the console is something that should have happened a long time ago.

Regardless, the opportunity to play through favorites such as Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros., and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask makes for a tantalizing prospect. Just what games will kick off the Nintendo 64's presence on the Wii U Virtual Console remains to be seen, but it sounds as if fans won't be waiting too long to get an official update.

Now, if only Nintendo could get to work on releasing Gamecube games on the Wii U Virtual Console. There are some great games on that platform that, if re-released, could easily secure some hard-earned money from this editor's pockets.

Which N64 titles would you like to play on the Wii U? Will you be investing in any games from the classic console on Nintendo's new format?
