It may surprise some fans to learn that the original arcade release of Tekken 7 doesn't feature one of the franchise's most popular characters, Nina Williams. Well, that changes with the upcoming Fated Retribution update for arcades, which will also serve as the actual Tekken 7 release for PlayStation 4 later this year, as Nina Williams is officially joining the roster.

This was announced today to celebrate Tekken 7's presence at EVO 2016 this year. A trailer was released for Nina Williams to make the announcement, showcasing her vicious move set while wearing a bridal dress. The trailer also reveals Nina's end-match taunt, which will have her looking back at her opponent and saying, "What's done is done."

It's unclear at this point if Nina's bridal dress attire, dubbed "The Fatal Bride" costume by Bandai Namco, will be her primary costume in the game. It is entirely possible that it is simply an alternate costume, and that most of the time she will be wearing her more traditional Tekken garb. In any case, see Nina Williams as the Fatal Bride in the trailer below:

With a lot of Tekken 7's big character announcements surrounding new fighters, such as Shaheen, it's good to see some classic Tekken characters returning like Jack and Nina Williams as well. Nina Williams is easily one of the most popular characters in the history of the Tekken franchise, and even had her own spin-off game in 2005, so leaving her off the roster for the game's console debut would be unfortunate.

That being said, it will be interesting to see how fans respond to Nina as she is represented in the trailer. If the Fatal Bride costume is her only outfit in the game, it may irk Tekken purists that would rather see Nina battle it out in her usual costume. It may also result in a controversy similar to the one that surrounded new fighter Lucky Chloe, where the fan base mocks the look instead of embracing the character.

Nina's Fatal Bride costume is a great deal less ridiculous than Lucky Chloe's feline-inspired look, but some may still take issue with it nonetheless. Regardless, if game director Katsuhiro Harada has shown us anything, it's that he's not afraid to do something different with Tekken 7, and it will be interesting to see if Nina's new outfit has any story significance or if it is just for the sake of putting the popular character in a wedding dress.

Tekken 7 is due for release later this year on the PlayStation 4. A possible release on other platforms has yet to be confirmed by Bandai Namco.
