Greetings, Ranters, and welcome to July. Though the month kicked off with holiday celebrations in the United States and Canada, gamers may be feeling a bit less festive after they've taken a look at this week's new video game releases. No doubt about it -- the fireworks are over.

Intrepid players who venture to their local retailers this week can expect to find the campy, bug-blasting Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, in addition to the Resistance Dual Pack. Meanwhile, PlayStation Move Ape Escape brings massive monkey madness to PSN, and PC players finally get a crack at Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.

Take a look at the new releases for July 3 though 9, 2011, broken out by platform and date.

There are giant bugs, and you must destroy them. That pretty much sums up the plot of Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, follow up to the surprisingly popular Earth Defense Force 2017. Insect Armageddon is the first of the Earth Defense Force games to be handled by a Western Developer, Vicious Cycle. Three player online co-op, two player split-screen co-op, and a six player survival mode come along for the ride, as does a completely destroyable city. Can Insect Armageddon be as much trashy fun as its predecessor? Check back soon for Game Rant's full review. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon will be available July 5, 2011, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

There is a staggering shooter showdown set for the end of the year that includes Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, Gears of War 3, Uncharted 3, and Resistance 3 (yes, that's a lot of threes). Players whose tastes run towards the last of those games may want to take a look at the Resistance Dual Pack hitting stores this week. The set includes both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, bonus DLC maps and skins, and more -- just the thing to tide players over (and get them up to speed on the series' history) until Resistance 3 releases in September. The Resistance Dual Pack releases July 5, 2011, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

As always, we want to hear from you. What games are you planning on picking up this week? What upcoming games are you most looking forward to?
