The Pokemon Snap series is making a comeback in 2021 after the original N64 game not receiving a sequel in over 20 years. New Pokemon Snap is releasing on the Nintendo Switch and offers Poke-fans a chance to experience the on-rails shooter phenomenon that was all the craze back in the day. Of course, being a kid-friendly Pokemon game, New Pokemon Snap is a shooter in the sense that you literally shoot photos of pocket monsters that roam the new Lental region.

Just like the original game, players will embark on a quest to snap the best photos of Pokemon and discover secrets along the way. Players will get on board a futuristic machine that carries them through various biomes. Players don't actually control the human character, but they can move the camera around while the craft automatically travels along a set path. After the level is complete, the photos that were taken by gamers will be scored by the region's professor. The photo grading in New Pokemon Snap depends on several elements of the photo, such as how far the Pokemon is from the camera, whether they're facing the camera, and their pose, among other things.

Is New Pokemon Snap Multiplayer?

For folks that are interested in picking up New Pokemon Snap, and are wondering if the game is multiplayer at all will be disappointed to hear that this title doesn't support any kind of multiplayer functionality, at least during the gameplay segments. Players will have to enter the themed biomes all by themselves with nobody else besides them. This should be expected, as the first Pokemon Snap game was single-player only, and since the Nintendo 64 had no online connectivity, there was no way to even connect to other players.

This isn't exactly the case with New Pokemon Snap, however, as players can link up to other Pokemon Snap aficionados and rate their pictures online. This further urges players to snap the best photos and share them online with friends, especially on social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram.

With that being said, Nintendo can be very unpredictable when it comes to knowing how it will update its titles. Just recently, the publisher/developer added online game board functionality to Super Mario Party on the Nintendo Switch, after the game has been out for several years at this point. There could be a chance that New Pokemon Snap gets updated with a patch that adds some sort of online gameplay component, but it's highly unlikely as New Pokemon Snap just isn't built around multiplayer. If that does happen, this article will certainly be updated with the new information.

New Pokemon Snap launches April 30 for the Nintendo Switch.
