Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime reveals the Galaxy Style New Nintendo 3DS XL, which features the image of a lavender galaxy on the replaceable plate.

In addition to multiple versions of the 3DS and 3DS XL, Nintendo has released several variants of the New Nintendo 3DS XL since its reveal two years ago. Nintendo is now adding yet another choice for gamers, introducing the Galaxy Style New Nintendo 3DS XL.

The Galaxy Style variant of the New Nintendo 3DS XL was officially revealed by Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime on Twitter, announcing that it will be available in most stores this week for $199.99. Contrary to what one might initially guess based on the handheld's name, the Galaxy New Nintendo 3DS XL doesn't appear to have anything to do with the Super Mario Galaxy series. The video introducing the handheld system shows a morphing star field that eventually becomes the front of the 3DS handheld. Other than the outward appearance, the New Nintendo 3DS XL is identical to its predecessors, like the Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes New Nintendo 3DS XL that came out last year.

The faceplate of the Galaxy New Nintendo 3DS XL is quite lovely to look at, and the handheld will of course offer all the bonuses that the New Nintendo 3DS introduced that surpass the original Nintendo 3DS. In addition to the larger XL-model screen and the new C-Stick, the New Nintendo 3DS XL's 3D visuals are superior, and the system has more processing power than the original 3DS. Should players become bored of the appearance of the Galaxy Style 3DS, the faceplate can be removed and swapped, as with all other versions of the 'New' handheld.

Unfortunately, Nintendo officials haven't announced any plans to release the Galaxy Style faceplate as a stand-alone add-on for those who already own a New Nintendo 3DS XL. In addition, while the price of the handheld is the same as the standard black and red variants of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, some gamers may prefer to pick up the handheld when it includes a game, like the Pokemon New Nintendo 3DS bundle. Other gamers may decide to hold out for price cuts, like the $25 discount on New Nintendo 3DS units GameStop offered last year.

Not every gamer will want to jump at this handheld, but it is a rather attractive looking variant of a well-received piece of gaming equipment that may entice gamers who have been thinking about buying a New Nintendo 3DS XL.

Is an appealing outward appearance enough for you to splurge, Ranters, or are you more interested in a good bargain? Let us know in the comments.
