Every time N7 Day rolls around, the community goes together to celebrate all things Mass Effect. BioWare is often involved in this gaming holiday too, with the company releasing a new teaser image this year. In it, there are four Mass Effect characters walking toward a huge crater in the ground, seemingly made by that of a reaper, and there’s a dead Geth on the ground up ahead of the four.

This new Mass Effect game teaser gave fans a lot to chew on, but others also celebrated with fan art, cosplays, and more. There’s no doubt how popular and important this franchise is to many, including those involved. Commander Shepard voice actors Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer, for example, held an interview with GamesRadar to celebrate N7 Day.

During this interview, the two voice actors talked a little bit about their desire to return as Commander Shepard. It should be noted that Commander Shepard hasn’t been confirmed for the new Mass Effect game, but there are certainly possibilities. Of course, many don’t want him to return as his story is done and instead want the Andromeda storyline to be the main focus, but from previous teasers, it seems both galaxies are somehow involved.

mass effect will continue

But, on the topic of returning/if they’d return as Commander Shepard, both Hale and Meer were clearly quite excited. Hale began by saying, “I’d jump to come back and do anything in the universe, especially, obviously more Shepard, but Mark put it beautiful before, I’ll let you share, Mark.” He didn’t hesitate, following up with “…The Mass Effect universe is so fully realized and so well thought out, and it feels like a living place. I just want to see more stories in that universe.”

Meer would go on to explain that, here, he’s speaking as a fan of the Mass Effect franchise and not “as a voice actor who’s hoping to get work.” He alludes to the deep history of the Mass Effect games, as everything from the First Contact War, the Rachni Wars, and more remain truly unexplored. It’s impossible, of course, for every single event ever to be explored, but past or future, there’s a lot that’s still left unsaid.

Two of the most interesting ideas Meer throws out, clarifying he has no insider information and is still just speaking as a fan, would be games exploring the Protheans and their conflict with the Reapers, as well as the equivalent of Marvel’s What If in Mass Effect. Both ideas are obviously interesting, even if they’re not the direction of the current game in development.

Either way, what’s clear from this interview with Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer is how excited they are about the new Mass Effect game and how much they love the franchise. Indeed, this is how many fans feel, and if Commander Shepard WERE to somehow return, it seems Hale and Meer are ready to return.

A new Mass Effect game is in development.
