The past month has seen both Sony and Microsoft focus a lot on games coming out for their next-generation consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series X, respectively. However, there are still plenty of notable new games that are in development for current-generation platforms as well, with a number of them actually set to launch in August.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout (August 4)

Set to be part of the free PS Plus games for August 2020Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a quirky new take on the ever-popular battle royale genre. Instead of shooting other players on a massive map, though, Fall Guys is instead similar to Wipeout or Japanese game shows, with players having to compete against each other to overcome increasingly ridiculous obstacles. It being part of the free PS Plus games for August 2020 should ensure that Fall Guys has a large community of players right out of the gate, so those interested should be sure to check it out.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout will be available for PC and PS4 on August 4.

Fast and Furious: Crossroads (August 7)

coronavirus delay

Fans of the Fast and Furious franchise were looking forward to seeing the next entry in the popular film series this year, but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic forced Universal to delay it all the way to 2021. Unfortunately, the Fast and Furious: Crossroads video game also suffered a delay, though it's finally set to release next week. While the game has been criticized for having underwhelming visuals, it will sport full-fledged campaign and multiplayer modes, and could very well provide enough high-octane action to tide fans over until they can watch the new movie. Developer Slightly Mad Studios has a proven track record of developing high-quality racing games as well, which certainly tips the scales in the game's favor, but we'll find out sooner rather than later if it lives up to the legacy of the movie franchise.

Fast and Furious: Crossroads launches on August 7 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Horizon Zero Dawn PC Port (August 7)

PC specs for Horizon Zero Dawn

Last month saw Death Stranding come to PC, and now another PS4 exclusive is making the leap. The Horizon Zero Dawn PC port is set to launch next week, bringing Aloy's complete story to the platform for the very first time. While some PS4 fans may be upset that one of the console's biggest exclusives is coming to PC, others recognize that the move could very well convince more gamers to pick up a PlayStation 5 so that they don't have to wait extra years to play the upcoming sequel.

Horizon Zero Dawn is out now for PS4 and is coming to PC on August 7.

Hyper Scape (August 11)

Hyper Scape Helmet Guy

Ubisoft's Hyper Scape battle royale has been in beta on PC, but now the super-fast BR is set to make its console debut. Hyper Scape Season 1 launches on August 11, and with it comes the console versions of the game. Hyper Scape's reception has been somewhat mixed so far, so it's unclear if the game will be able to establish itself as a must-play BR in a sea of similar games.

The EA Sports UFC franchise is coming back with EA Sports UFC 4, boasting a huge roster of fighters, revamped game modes, and much more. One of the more interesting aspects of EA Sports UFC 4 is that it lets players start their fighting careers by battling it out in backyards, which should ensure some more arena variety than fans are used to from the games. A next-gen version of EA Sports UFC 4 is also rumored, but that has yet to be confirmed at the time of this writing.

EA Sports UFC 4 is coming on August 14 for PS4 and Xbox One.

Visually, Microsoft Flight Simulator is a cut above most games, and while its sim gameplay may not have as widespread appeal as some of the other games listed here, there's no denying that it has potential.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is launching on August 18 for PC with an Xbox One release to follow.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition (August 27)

Square Enix remastered edition

One of the more popular Final Fantasy franchise spinoffs was the GameCube's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and now the game is returning with enhanced visuals, freshly recorded voice acting, and online multiplayer. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition won't have local co-op like the original game did, but hopefully the new online multiplayer functionality is enough to satisfy fans.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will launch on August 27 for Android, iOS, PS4, and Switch.

EA Sports releases a new Madden NFL game every year, so it's no surprise that Madden NFL 21 is set to launch at the end of August. Madden NFL 21 is making a number of noticeable on-the-field improvements, though fans have raised concerns that Franchise mode is being neglected. Whether or not that's the case remains to be seen, but at the very worst, football fans should still be able to count on Madden NFL 21 as delivering gameplay on par with its predecessors.

Project Cars

Fast and Furious: Crossroads isn't the only game coming from Slightly Mad Studios in August. The racing game developer is also launching Project Cars 3, the third entry in what is arguably its most popular franchise. Considered to be a "spiritual successor" to Slightly Mad's Need for Speed: Shift games, Project Cars 3 boasts a number of improvements over the previous games in the series, and should be one of the year's most anticipated games for racing enthusiasts.

Project Cars 3 is launching August 28 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

It's been a whopping nine years since the last Serious Sam game, but now the over-the-top first-person shooter franchise is finally set to make its return. Croteam has confirmed Serious Sam 4 for an August 2020 release on PC and Stadia, though an exact date has yet to be nailed down. Since fans still don't have a specific release date for the game, it's entirely within the realm of possibility that Serious Sam 4 ends up getting delayed to later in the year. But for now, FPS fans can look forward to seeing what Serious Sam 4 is all about in August.

Serious Sam 4 is scheduled to launch in August 2020 for PC and Stadia, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming in 2021.
