Browncoats of the world, you have a new mission. Actor Nathan Fillion has thrown his name into the ring to play Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie adaptation, to be helmed by David O. Russel. Fillion declared his intention to his Twitter followers earlier this week, attempting to create the type of viral movement that landed Betty White on Saturday Night Live.

"If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it. Rise, ye Browncoats. Rise, ye Castillions. RISE!"

Browncoats refers to fans of the short lived (but brilliant) Joss Whedon television series Firefly, and Castillions are fans of Fillion's current show Castle.

Many gamers have tapped Uncharted as one of the most logical of today's games franchises to make the jump to the big screen. The project has been in production for some time, with new writers brought on-board nearly a year ago, but there have been some bumps in the road that have caused multiple delays. Those that have played the PlayStation 3 exclusive games know that the story and characters are some of the best in the industry today, thanks to the voice acting of Nolan North.

North has been the voice of Nathan Drake in both Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (he's also the voice of The Prince from 2008's Prince of Persia reboot and Desmond Miles from Assassin's Creed). Some fans of the series have called for North to reprise his roll in the movie adaptation, even though he's never before played in a staring role in a feature film.

The casting question all boils down to what direction Sony Pictures wants to take the project in. Fillion would be a great choice to bring in the 'geek' demographic, due to his roles in many genre classics (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Angel, Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog, Slither). However, if Sony decides to take the project in a broad mainstream direction, Fillion could be out in place of a more well known and tested actor. The name Bradley Cooper was tossed around by some Game Rant writers.

If you're on Team Fillion, fans are using the hashtag #NathanIsNathan on twitter to try and drum up support; otherwise you'll have to wait until David O. Russel and Sony announce more information about the film.

So what do you think, Ranters? Can Nathan Fillion fill Nathan Drake's shoes, or do you want a bigger star taking the lead?

You can check out both Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (winner of Game Rant's 2009 Game of the Year poll, and now available in a new Game of the Year Edition) to get ready for the movie. Both are available exclusively for PlayStation 3.
