When LEGO Dimensions initially leaked, gamers couldn't have guessed just how many franchises would be appearing in the toys-to-life game. As it turns out, beloved properties across a number of mediums will be present in the forthcoming title. Everything from Lord of the Rings and Back to the Future, to Portal and Scooby Doo will be featured in the game – with room for even more IP to join as users build up their collection of scannable minifigures.

With the possibilities seemingly endless, we've opted to create a list of franchises that we would like to see make an appearance in LEGO Dimensions.

NOTE: Instead of sticking with properties that have already received full-fledged LEGO games, however, we've opted to get creative with our choices in lieu of getting bogged down on seemingly obvious future additions. With that in mind, here's our list of the five franchises that should join LEGO Dimensions.

-

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

This should seem like a no-brainer for those that have been following recent block-centric developments. As many consumers are probably well aware, LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles playsets do exist, but for some reason or another Traveller's Tales has yet to make a new core game based on the property. We're hoping that the developer rectifies that soon, but in the meantime an appearance from the heroes in a half shell in LEGO Dimensions would suffice.

With the likes of Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo, and an ample number of supporting characters, there would be no shortage of playable additions to the game. At the end of the day though, the ability to have Marty McFly, Homer Simpson, and a bandana-wearing humanoid turtle team up to dispatch foes is something that many fans are sure to want to see.

Ghostbusters

As one of the most iconic film franchises of the eighties, Ghostbusters left its mark on moviegoers and has remained a classic ever since. Aside from the fact that bustin' makes you feel good, having the property make an appearance in LEGO Dimensions just makes too much sense. Ghostbusters has only just recently received its very own playset that includes a number of recognizable characters and locations from the films, meaning its ripe for inclusion in this new game.

With the potential for all four playable versions of the original busters, and perhaps even the grotesque companion Slimer, it would be any fan's dream come true to see the characters return once again. Couple that with ongoing plans to resurrect the long dormant franchise, and it looks like there's no better time for a LEGO-themed crossover.

-

Adventure Time

Setting aside the fact that this cartoon has an incredibly catchy intro song, Adventure Time and LEGO seemingly go together better than bacon and pancakes. While the latest initiative to have the series LEGO-fied wasn't approved by the company, having characters like Jake the dog and Finn the human appear in the game would be a much different procedure than having their own licensed playsets.

The land of Ooo would look a whole lot better with the likes of Batman running around in it, and there's no other chance for that to happen unless Adventure Time joins LEGO Dimensions. With a loyal fan base surrounding the Cartoon Network property, this seems like an obvious addition to a game that's already turning heads with its library of included series.

Minecraft

After comparisons stating that Minecraft was essentially a virtual LEGO game, it was inevitable that the two brands would meet. The end result of all this fan demand lead to several sets featuring a number of beloved items and characters from the game, and we think that having the likes of the mute protagonist Steve and perhaps even a Creeper join as playable characters in LEGO Dimensions would be more than welcome.

While the addition of Minecraft characters seems like a no-brainer for the new game, there could very well be major complications with having the property appear across multiple platforms given the fact that the IP is now owned by Microsoft. Admittedly, that hasn't stopped the series from remaining on PlayStation (and even receiving updates following the property's acquisition), but the Xbox manufacturer could have other plans for the series going forward that don't include permitting the newly obtained characters going anywhere near a Sony or Nintendo console.

-

Star Trek

As one of the largest sci-fi properties of all time, it's almost shocking that Star Trek has yet to get the LEGO treatment. Aside from being a ridiculously popular television series and being the subject of a blockbuster theatrical reboot, the franchise has yet to spawn any form of partnership with the block manufacturer. This can largely be attributed to the fact that KRE-O currently holds the rights to create build-able Trekkie merchandise, which is something that many LEGO aficionados have been less-than-content with for years.

Fortunately, contracts do come to an end – hence how LEGO got its claw-like hands on the Jurassic World/Park license – and we couldn't think of a better addition to the forthcoming toys-to-life game than Star Trek. With Captain Kirk and Spock added to the lineup, consumers and longtime fans alike would have an absolutely stellar selection of IP to choose from in LEGO Dimensions.
