Sweet Tooth Guest Mortal Kombat X Character

Mortal Kombat X may be right around the corner – April 14th to be exact – but it still feels like NetherRealm Studios has a lot of work to do. Sure, they’ve done well to show how this current-gen fighting game will take the franchise into a new era with high fidelity graphics, gratuitous violence, and new mechanics, but the game’s roster has some unfilled spaces.

However, while fans wait for Mortal Kombat X to round out its roster with some franchise favorites and new creations, Creative Director Ed Boon has turned his focus elsewhere. Boon has found that teasing potential guest characters is a fun past time, even if his hints might ultimately lead to nothing.

The latest of Boon’s teases should have Sony and Mortal Kombat X fans reeling, as they consider a crossover between two ultra violent franchises. If the tease is to be believed, and not just a clever ruse, there’s a strong possibility that Twisted Metal racer Sweet Tooth will join the MKX roster. That, or he really loves those new Red Velvet Oreos.

Most will recognize Sweet Tooth as the sadistic clown featured prominently in nearly every Twisted Metal promotional material. He’s also a major player across the entire Sony brand, having been featured in other, non-Twisted Metal titles like PlayStation All-Stars.

Console Exclusive Fighters?

No doubt, Boon loves to have fun interacting with Mortal Kombat fans on Twitter – any quick perusal of his account will tell you that. But, at the same time, the Mortal Kombat creator enjoys letting tiny details slip and seeing if any fans pick up on them. This isn't the first time Sweet Tooth has been mentioned in connection with Mortal Kombat either - Boon said his team tried to get him in MK 9 but couldn't make it work. Perhaps the stars aligned this time and the clown is ready for his Mortal Kombat debut.

As Boon himself admits, this tease is far too conspicuous to be overlooked, even if it may be a red herring. The prospect of Sweet Tooth joining the roster is something that is sure to draw a lot of attention from Sony fans, especially those who hold a special fondness for the Twisted Metal franchise.

So, operating under the assumption Sweet Tooth is joining the Mortal Kombat X roster, many are now wondering whether his inclusion will be part of a PlayStation exclusivity deal. Could he be a unique fighter on the PS4 and PS3? Taking things a step further, it also stands to reason that if Sweet Tooth is a PlayStation exclusive then NetherRealm might also be working on an Xbox exclusive guest character as well. But we’ll leave that speculation to you lot.

More Mortal Kombat X Costumes

Switching gears for a moment to firmer Mortal Kombat X news, NetherRealm has this week revealed that their forthcoming game will offer far more costume variations than it ever has before. They didn’t have much more to say than that, but players should expect more ways to customize their favorite fighter on top of the unique fighting styles.

NetherRealm also revealed that High Voltage Studios will be handling the PC port of Mortal Kombat X. They’re the same developer who ported the PC version of MK 9 and that version was fine so no need to worry just yet. Still it’s good to know when a version is a port and is not handled by the main developer.

Would you like to see Sweet Tooth join the Mortal Kombat X roster? Who else would you like to see make a guest appearance?
