Mortal Kombat X Predator

DLC has become a heated topic of debate in the last few months, with games like Evolve (where many players were confused about how to get access to certain added content) and Batman: Arkham Knight's Batgirl DLC drawing harsh criticism from gamers. But Mortal Kombat X's developer NetherRealm Studios has taken a different approach to DLC altogether, with players of the massively popular fighting game having praised the team for it.

Unlike the DLC of other games, which would usually be shown to players via trailers and screenshots, NetherRealm gives Mortal Kombat X owners a chance to actually play as its DLC characters via the game's 'Tower' mode. In addition to the Hourly and Daily Towers, there's also the Premier Tower, which changes every six days and sometimes lets players demo characters that they do not own, for free.

Today, Predator has been added to the Premier Tower, as confirmed in the above tweet from NetherRealm Studios. Predator was added to Mortal Kombat X on July 7 for those who purchased the Kombat Pack season pass (though Xbox One players had some difficulty downloading the character). However, those who only wanted to play as the iconic movie monster and not as the three other characters in the Kombat Pack -  Jason Voorhees, Tanya, and Tremor - had to wait until July 14 to buy the new kombatant.

Those who do decide to take Predator for a spin in in the Premiere Tower are in for a gory surprise, as Predator is one of the most brutal kombatants on the Mortal Kombat X roster. And given that the game includes revamped 'Brutality' finishing moves, that's really saying something. As showcased in this Predator gameplay trailer, the kombatant can attack opponents with a (literal) stomach-churning slice to the gut, a laser beam that shoots from its shoulder-mounted gun, and there's also a horrific neck slash added simply to emphasize the Predator's power.

Predator is now available either as a standalone character for $4.99 or as part of the Predator/Prey bundle which includes Predator along with the Carl Weathers as Jax, Commando Johnny and Infrared Scorpion skins.

Are you excited to play as Predator in Mortal Kombat X? Do you think that more developers should embrace the 'Tower' DLC system? Leave a comment and let us know.
