After months of anticipation, fans of Fatalities were finally able to get their hands on Mortal Kombat X this week. The game is seeing great sales and positive reviews in its first week and players are already tearing through the campaign mode. As players destroy the NPC competition, they will run into a few fighters that are currently unplayable...unless someone know about this mod, that is.

As Skyrim has proven over and over again, every time a game is released on PC there is always the chance for some awesome mods. We're just starting to see what the Grand Theft Auto 5 community has in store for the game and despite the fact that modding might be slightly less common in fighting games, the Mortal Kombat X modders are up to some craziness just a few days after the game's launch.

Modder XVermillion posted a few videos on YouTube of his successful attempt to battle with three of the unplayable Mortal Kombat X story mode characters in the training mode. The modder explains his process on Reddit:

"There are other files you can change to get stuff like Rain's name under the health Bar but the only files I modded are in the "Assets" folder I believe; there should be 2 associated with Rain... I backed up the files for Shinnok (the character I'm replacing) and renamed Rain's files to match those associated with Shinnok's 1st costume slot... and moved 'em to the folder and overwrote Shinnok's old files with the newly renamed Rain files."

"What you see is just me playing in training mode with what the game thinks is Shinnok but is using Rain's model and moveset."

Basically, he tricks the game into thinking he's playing with one character, by throwing on a different character's skin and moves on top of it. If the process sounds a little too complicated to try at home, readers can watch the modder brawling with the locked characters in the two videos. Those who get a taste for the gore, might also want to check out the video that reveals every known Fatality in the game.

Rain, Baraka, and Sindel haven't been announced as DLC characters yet, but we fully expect them to be available for purchase or unlockable through a secret at some point during the game's lifespan. Mortal Kombat X's full roster is jam packed with old and new characters, but there is always room for another fighter.

Will you be modding your version to unlock these characters? What other characters would you like to see unlocked or added to the playable roster? Let us know in the comments.

Mortal Kombat X is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
