Few could deny that Mortal Kombat X has experienced a successful launch. The game has been applauded by both critics and gamers alike, which has propelled it to become the fastest-selling game in the history of the series.

But even before the game released NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. hoped that Mortal Kombat X would be successful, and so they planned an extensive post-launch DLC campaign. That DLC campaign will include a variety of future additions to the base game such as classic Fatalities, but the most exciting new content comes in the form of new characters and guest characters.

Fighting games go with guest characters like peanut butter goes with jelly, and Mortal Kombat is no stranger to guest characters. Past entries have seen the likes of Kratos and Freddy Krueger enter the fight, but now one of the most exciting guest characters in the history of the franchise, Jason Voorhees, is gearing up to debut. Available to download tomorrow for those with the Kombat Pack (and then available a week later for separate purchase), Jason Voorhees looks like he will make an excellent addition to the roster, if his debut trailer is anything to go by.

At the start of his matches, Jason will lumber onto the screen, dragging the corpse of a dead teenager with him, accompanied by the familiar "ki, ki, ki, ma, ma, ma" theme from the films. Once the fighting begins, Jason seems to be able to hold his own with the best of them, delivering brutal punches, kicks, and creative grapples. Jason also appears to have a special ability to withstand attacks for a certain period of time, which is in line with his near-indestructible movie persona.

As Jason methodically walks towards his victims, withstanding each blow coming his way, he has his arm outreached and grabs them by the throat. This leaves his enemies open for grapple attacks, as well as Jason's X-Ray move. Jason's X-Ray attack consists of the lumbering brute shoving his machete through the bottom of his opponent's head, and then pushing it forward to break the top of their spinal column.

Jason's iconic machete is an integral part of not only his regular attacks, but at least one of his Fatalities, too. The trailer offers a brief glimpse of what Jason's machete-based Fatality may entail, as he slams the blade through Jax, nearly splitting him in two. However, the trailer cuts away before the rest of the gory sequence is revealed.

Jason Voorhees is available as a part of a DLC add-on for MKX called the Horror Pack, which includes more than just Jason as a playable character. The pack will also include alternate skins for Ermac, Mileena, and Reptile, based on classic horror movie icons.

Those on the fence about laying down the cash for the new skins and Jason Voorhees will at least have the opportunity to try Jason before buying. In fact, all future DLC characters for Mortal Kombat X can be demoed before they're purchased.

As far as those future DLC characters are concerned, we know that Mortal Kombat X will add Predator , Tanya, and Tremor at a later date. Their associated DLC packs will include new skins for existing roster members as well, but for those unwilling to drop any more money on the game's DLC, NetherRealm plans on adding a free skin with every patch for the game moving forward.

Mortal Kombat X is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Kombat Pack owners can download Jason Voorhees and the new skins tomorrow, May 5th, whereas those that want to purchase the content separately will have to wait until Tuesday, the 12th.
