Mortal Kombat X Boot Tease

Earlier today, NetherRealm Studios gave fans their first look at fan-favorite character and returning Mortal Kombat X fighter, Liu Kang, in action. The trailer itself didn’t feature too much of Kang’s gameplay, but it did give players some sense of his story and how his fighting style has (or hasn’t) evolved.

Of course, NetherRealm, or more specifically Mortal Kombat X director Ed Boon, was not satisfied just revealing one new character. Rather, the prolific developer immediately took to Twitter to tease two more Mortal Kombat X roster additions, just to keep fans on their toes.

Like before, Boon’s tease comes in the form of boots…two pairs of very similar looking boots. We have no idea who these boots might belong to, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth making a few guesses.

The mystery boot on the left, for example, seems to resemble a cowboy boot, which could belong to Erron Black. For those who might not know, Erron Black is a Gunslinger-esque character who has featured prominently in the Mortal Kombat X prequel comic and was rumored for the final roster. Actually, we’re pretty confident that Erron Black is in the game because he’s directly referenced in the Mortal Kombat X achievement list, but NetherRealm has yet to make anything official.

As far as the other boots are concerned, those could belong to anyone, both Mortal Kombat fan-favorite or new character. We’re sure fans will make their assumptions, but given who the other boots ended up connecting to it may be best to wait and see.

Still, the tease is worth acknowledging because it means NetherRealm Studios is not done yet; they still have a few more characters to reveal, and a few of them could be the fan-favorite that Mortal Kombat diehards have been holding out for.

We should also point out (since we missed it the first time around) the appearance of Bo Rai Cho in the Liu Kang trailer. The pudgy drunken master was first introduced with Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance so his appearance in the trailer could point to a Mortal Kombat X run. However, roster spots are getting tight, so it’s possible Bo Rai Cho is just a story character and not a playable fighter.

Even then, there are still other surprises in store for the Mortal Kombat X crowd, some of which NetherRealm is choosing to save for the final game. There is one reveal, however, that NetherRealm says is coming soon and that’s Goro gameplay. Fans have been clamoring to see the multi-armed fighter in action ever since Goro was announced as a pre-order bonus, and they will apparently get their wish very soon.

Who do you think the two mystery boots belong to? What characters do you think should be on the Mortal Kombat X roster that are not already?

Mortal Kombat X releases April 14, 2015 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A PS3 and Xbox 360 release will follow in the summer.
