As the hotly anticipated Mortal Kombat X nears release, we've come to know a great deal about the game's ever-growing roster of fighters and its intriguing story mode. Now, the official list of achievements for the biggest fighting game release of 2015 has been published online — beware, some spoilers may follow.

It seems that the developers at NetherRealm Studios have made a concerted effort to ensure that the game's achievements encourage players to dip into all the modes that are on offer. The single-player campaign, challenge towers and the Faction Wars metagame are all well-represented, with several different tiers of accomplishments.

Beyond that, there are the typical one-off achievements for actions like entering Practice Mode or performing your first Fatality, as well as the expected milestones for personal leveling and online performance. There's even a challenge to spill one thousand pints of blood — which should be a fairly easy task based on some of the bloody footage we've seen thus far.

However — as is often the case with achievements — the more unique challenges are the best. 'Jumping Bean' rewards players for jumping thirty times in a single match, and a pair of Kotal Kahn specific tests prompt players to use the new character's mechanics in interesting ways during Kombat.

The most intriguing achievement on the list confirms one of the more macabre stage interactions in the game. 'Blanche Advantage' will unlock for a player if they utilize an old woman as a projectile in the Outland Marketplace level — which proves to be considerably detrimental to the health of Blanche herself.

Achievement lists can often spoil the main plot of a game, but in the case of Mortal Kombat X, things are kept rather quiet. There are just two entries that hint at the events of the campaign — one for reaching its halfway point and the other for getting all the way to the end — and their titles and the accompanying images give mere hints at the plot rather than being an all-out reveal.

The achievement for getting halfway is called 'A New Beginning', and is accompanied by an image of what appears to be Scorpion walking the streets of a ruined Earth. The reward for completing the mode is named 'There is a Ruler', and its image shows the iconic armor of series antagonist Shao Kahn sitting in a library display case.
