So far we have seen a handful of trailers for the new Mortal Kombat that have showcased some of the series’ old favorites, like Scorpion and Sub-Zero. As yet, there really hasn’t been much coverage of the game's female characters. All that is about to change with the introduction of a new trailer that gives the back-story and shows the vicious moves of Mileena.

Part of an experiment gone not-so-right, Mileena was supposed to be a perfect copy of Kitana, royalty in the world of Mortal Kombat. Sure, with her mask on Mileena does bear some resemblance to Kitana, but with her mask off she is absolutely terrifying.

Because of this horrific facial disfigurement, Mileena has marked Kitana as her number one foe. Think of Mileena and Kitana's relationship like Sub-Zero and Scorpion's, only with much larger “character profiles.”

That hatred for Kitana has never been more present than in the Mileena vignette, so give it a look. Like all the Mortal Kombat trailers, this isn't appropriate for the younger Ranters out there.

Vicious disposition aside, Mileena possesses a certain brutality, especially combined with her use of tsais, that should make her a formidable selection from the MK roster.

With only about three more months until release, and many of gamers’ favorite characters yet to be revealed, there should be a big marketing blitz on the horizon. Not only can gamers expect character confirmations and reveals, but also perhaps some console-specific characters.

After Kratos was revealed in an awesome trailer at the Spike VGAs as playable in the PS3 version of the game, most began speculating that one of the 360’s most recognizable characters would make an appearance in the Xbox edition of Mortal Kombat. There is still some time for MK and Microsoft to iron out the details, but let’s hope there is something cooking.

Going back to the style of play that started it all has proven advantageous to a whole number of series. Receiving mostly positive feedback, it looks like Mortal Kombat made the right choice in sticking to solid gameplay and gore upon gore. Game Rant is extremely excited to reconnect with the franchise, and so should you be.

What do you think of Mileena’s characterization for Mortal Kombat? Are there any gamers out there who have stuck with her as their starting character?

Mortal Kombat releases April 18, 2011, in the UK, and some time during April in the US, on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
