Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition Release Date

It's been over a month since we first caught word that NetherRealm Studios was preparing to release the Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition. While some MK fans might have been holding out hope for a disc that contains every Mortal Kombat installment on a single disc, it was obvious that the Komplete Edition was merely going to be a release that featured the recent Mortal Kombat (reboot) game as well as the four DLC characters and fifteen character skins that the developer unveiled in subsequent weeks.

Now, Warner Bros. Interactive has confirmed the Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition - asserting that the title will be released on February 28th in the US and March 2nd in the UK.

For anyone who hasn't been following the Mortal Kombat "reboot" (aka Mortal Kombat 9), the title has already sold over 3 million copies and is arguably one of the most robust and downright enjoyable fighting game titles to hit the market in recent years.

The original version of the game features a lengthy story mode, local and online multiplayer, a challenge tower with over 300 unique (and hilarious) match-ups as well as a roster of 27 fighters (or 28, including the PS3 exclusive Kratos character).

Post-release NetherRealm unveiled another four "kombatants" as DLC (Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain, and horror icon Freddy Krueger) as well as fifteen "Klassic Skins" - including Sub-Zero's unmasked MK3 outfit and Scorpion's original MK1 costume. Klassic Reptile (MK2), Scorpion (MK1), and Sub-Zero (MK1) also feature "Klassic Fatalities" - which fans of the series will no doubt remember fondly. As expected the Komplete Edition will include all of the post-launch DLC - but, as a bonus, will also offer digital downloads of the game's official soundtrack (Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired by the Warriors) as well as the 1995 Mortal Kombat film (via the PlayStation Store or Xbox Live Zune).

Some fans will no doubt be bummed-out to hear this news - since, despite Ed Boon explicitly saying the studio is taking a break from Mortal Kombat, plenty of MK-lovers were still hoping to see even more DLC announced. That said, even though Warner Bros. Interactive has yet to reveal pricing on the title, it's likely that they'll follow the same $39.99 price tag that has become a staple for "complete editions," this Mortal Kombat release is likely to mark the end of any post-launch DLC plans.
