Many gamers are still enjoying the latest Call of Duty game, Black Ops, but it's about that time of the year where rumors start popping up regarding what the next Call of Duty could be about. The latest rumor involving the best-selling entertainment property in the world is a juicy one, although it's something that originally popped up in the media over a year ago: the next Call of Duty is said to star a very familiar face from Modern Warfare 2.

According to thisisxbox.com, they received an insider tip from someone within the industry who has confirmed that the next Call of Duty game, which is due out this year, will not be the widely expected Modern Warfare 3. Instead, Call of Duty 8 will star Simon "Ghost" Riley of MW2 fame. For those of you who have forgotten, Ghost is the British Lieutenant who is well known for his signature skull balaclava and red shades.

It's likely that some readers out there are asking themselves how Ghost could possibly star in his very own spin-off game after *SPOILER ALERT* he was killed and then had his body set ablaze at the end of MW2? Easy. The game will be a prequel detailing Simon's life before joining up with the unruly squad of Task Force 141. The game has been rumored to take place during the original Modern Warfare and will feature locales that many will remember from the first and second games in the series. This time, they will be seen and played through the eyes of Ghost.

The idea of having Ghost star in his own game really isn't that crazy. The good folks at Activision and Infinity Ward know that he is one of the most popular characters from the Call of Duty series and have even given him his own comic books, so their decision to pursue this character shouldn't come as a massive shock. Game Rant even previously reported that Craig Fairbrass, the voice of Ghost, confirmed that the idea of a Ghost spin-off was being tossed around over a year ago, and to hear that the game is due for release two years later seems to confirm what we originally thought.

The game is also said to be using the same game engine as Modern Warfare 2, which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering that the graphics looked just fine in the previous installment.

Do you think this rumor has some truth to it? Would you rather have Modern Warfare 3 or Modern Warfare: Ghost?

Modern Warfare: Ghost (tentative title) will apparently be releasing this year, and while there has yet to be an official announcement from Activision or Infinity Ward, it's really only a matter of time.
