There’s no denying that when video games are adapted into LEGO form it’s pretty funny. From LEGO Batman to LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO versions of popular franchises have proven to be a lucrative genre, but mostly because of their whimsy and kid-friendly atmosphere.

However, on rare occasions, some clever LEGO owners are able to craft a parody/homage to a popular piece of media (in brick form) that breaks through the “kiddie” barrier and enters the realm of awesome. Such is the case with this LEGO Modern Warfare 3 trailer.

Almost a shot-for-shot LEGO recreation of Modern Warfare 3’s big reveal trailer (including the 3-centric text), this homage to Call of Duty is something else. Stop-motion animation, in and of itself, is something to behold, but when it’s LEGOs and something gamers are very familiar with, it’s all the more impressive.

And this Modern Warfare 3 property is no slouch either — delivering over-the-top action sequence after over-the-top action sequence. Needless to say, choosing this trailer was a bold decision, but, as you’ll see from the final product, it was a gamble that paid off.

Kooberz Studios, the folks responsible for this faux trailer have created LEGO stop-motion homages to other popular trailers from 2011 including Gears of War 3 and Starcraft, but this is by far my favorite. The way they were able to incorporate every beat from that jaw-dropping trailer, from explosion to helicopter crash, should be applauded in and of itself.

And Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 the game? Well, that’s tearing up the sales charts as we speak, and should continue to do so from Black Friday well into 2012. It takes a big person to want to adapt Call of Duty, but it takes small and steady hands to do it in LEGO form.

What do you think of this Modern Warfare 3 trailer recreated in LEGO form? What other popular trailers from 2011 would you like to see a LEGO adaptation of?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is available now for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
