Modern Warfare 3 Patch Today

Having generated over $1 billion in sales in a little over two weeks, Modern Warfare 3 continues to stand as both the number one game on Xbox LIVE and one of the biggest entertainment franchises in history.

Maintaining a highly played game does take a lot of work, and the MW3 community isn't shy about letting Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games know what needs to be fixed. A new Hot Fix releasing today addresses some of the latest issues players have discovered in the game.

As with the previous Hot Fix, today's will be addressing glitches and re-balancing weapons (read: nerf) in Modern Warfare 3. However, the main complaints that players have right now don't involve weapon balance, but instead relate to the game's lag compensation and spawning system -- two things that are rather pivotal to first person shooters. Unfortunately, the spawn system will not be fixed in this current patch, although it is "in development and/or discussion" at Infinity Ward.

Take a look at the full Modern Warfare 3 Hot Fix details below.

  • Fire rate normalization for Assault Rifles with undermounts
  • FMG9 Re-balancing (Nerf)
  • Akimbo FMG9 Re-balancing (Nerf)
  • Fix for Shotgun's with Extended Mags (Prevents them from shooting more pellets than intended)
  • Type95 Re-balancing (Nerf) - Reduce hipspread.
  • Fix for ACR with Red Dot / Shotgun
  • Fix Type 95 bug related to dropping it.
  • Fix map exploits on Dome

Hardcore K/D seeking players might look in dismay at the list of fixes. Akimbo FMG9s were, in fact, one of the most powerful secondary weapons in the game, and would often result in a hail of death for anyone who came close. On the other hand, some players may be grateful to see significantly less FMG9 usage.

The "fire rate normalization" comes from the CM-901 assault rifle. If the rifle was equipped with an undermounted shotgun/grenade launcher, the fire rate would actually increase. Unfortunate, as the CM-901 has one of the slower fire rates of the assault rifles.

Players might be equally saddened by the shotgun fix, as shotguns are certainly less powerful and viable to use than they were in Modern Warfare 2. The rest of the fixes encompass things that were on IW's radar, so it's nice to see that they're updating the game as fast as possible to maximize its play experience.
