Thanks to a Mass Effect-themed 'Mash Up' DLC pack released last week, owners of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition are now able to build their own BioWare-inspired playground in the crafting, survival game. As sales for the mining game continue to soar, it's no surprise that there is still plenty of demand for additional content. According to a few tweets by the 4J Studios account, consumers may eventually also find some of the texture packs currently available for the PC version of Minecraft in the Xbox Games Store.

The studio is currently waiting to hear the findings from Microsoft's legal investigation into any potential complications that could arise from incorporating the additional content into the Xbox 360 version of the game. Apparently, it's a fairly complex process.

In a followup tweet, a fan asked 4J Studios if the upcoming texture pack would be game-related, like the Mass Effect 'Mash Up.' 4J explained that the texture pack in question would be not be game-related. The studio described the potential DLC as more of a style texture pack. The studio is clearly interested in incorporating pre-existing non-licensed texture packs into the console port, but Microsoft will need to come up with a plan for properly attributing credit to the individuals that originally created the PC texture packs before Xbox 360 gamers can get their hands on the content.

What we really want to see eventually - although the sad reality is that the developer and Microsoft/Sony wouldn't likely allow it - is mod support since that's the single biggest form of additional content (many of the official patches add content that was first created by the community) for the PC version. For advanced player, it's what makes the PC version literally infinitely larger and better since they can do anything from adding more creatures, effects and higher res textures, to new worlds, objects and weapons.

The Xbox 360 version of Minecraft is now able to handle in-game texture packs thanks to the system support that was incorporated in the recent Title Update 12. So far, the Mash Up pack released after the update allows users to access 36 new character skins and world textures based on the Mass Effect universe.

No potential release date for these hypothetical non-licensed texture packs has been mentioned yet. The next update for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, Title Update 13, is currently under discussion at 4J studios. TU13 will be a bug fix update, so you may not want to get your hopes up for any new content at this time.

The Mass Effect 'Mash Up' for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is currently available on the Xbox Games Store.
