Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection Announcement

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Metal Gear franchise, Konami has announced Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection for release later this year. While the Metal Gear franchise is no stranger to collections, this might just be the most comprehensive one yet.

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Edition comes right in time too, as gamers look forward to the PS4 and not one, but two new Metal Gear titles: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain. Needless to say, if gamers wanted to get caught up on the franchise's very complex story, here's a pretty good opportunity.

Although a few of the Metal Gear titles have made their way to other, non-Sony platforms this Legacy Collection will apparently be a PS3 exclusive. Moreover, Konami did not announce a release date, but said the set should hit store shelves some time in June.

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection includes:

  • Metal Gear
  • Metal Gear 2
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions

Metal Gear Solid numbers 2 and 3, as well as Peace Walker, will be the versions recently packaged with the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Unfortunately the original Metal Gears and the first Solid title will not be HD-ified.

The Legacy Collection will also include two Ashley Wood digital graphic novels. Wood has created graphic novels for several high profile franchise including Halo and Contra. There is no word, however, on what he is cooking up for this Legacy Collection.

As was mentioned it's been a banner year for the Metal Gear Solid franchise. Kojima Productions confirmed Metal Gear Solid 5 at this year's GDC, and revealed that Ground Zeroes would be released as its own title. Needless to say, there's a lot of Metal Gear coming fans' way.

Will you be picking up the Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection? Which of the games are you most excited to play again (or for the first time)?

Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection should hit store shelves some time in June 2013.
