While many once-exclusive franchises are now going multiplatform in the hopes of boosting sales, some are still showing their console allegiance through console exclusive content. Case in point: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and its PS3 and PS4-exclusive mission, Déjà Vu.

While the set-up for Déjà Vu isn't entirely the clear, the above trailer reveals why die-hard Metal Gear Solid fans will want to play this exclusive mission. Yes, that's a polygonal version of Solid Snake from the original PS1 classic, Metal Gear Solid.

Series creator Hideo Kojima revealed the exclusive mission during Sony's All Access PS4 Event, which had its fair share of PS4-focused surprises. And while a lot of the talk surrounding the PS4 recently has been focused on the console's ability to deliver high-resolution gameplay experiences, this Déjà Vu mission will remind fans how far Sony has come.

Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes Sony Exclusive Mission

In addition to a polygonal version of Solid Snake, the Sony-exclusive mission for Ground Zeroes will also feature additional characters, and even some camera angles, from the Metal Gear franchise's storied past. Konami is only teasing at this point, so it's unclear whom or what might make an appearance in Déjà Vu, but it definitely looks like Snake is rescuing Donald Anderson towards the end of the footage.

Here's a teaser synopsis for the mission courtesy of Konami:

"Retracing 16 years of history, the PlayStation-Exclusive "Déjà Vu" mission brings players back to the 1998 PlayStation classic Metal Gear Solid. In an age when graphics were limited to blocky pixelated polygons, Metal Gear Solid set new standards in videogame storytelling with its memorable characters, cinematic presentation, and complex story. Relive the most memorable moments of the past with this Sony-exclusive mission on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Past and present collide as the characters and camera angles you remember from the 16-year old classic are brought to life the high-fidelity world of MGS:GZ!"

However, this unveiling begs the question of whether or not Snake's original voice actor, David Hayter, will make an appearance in Ground Zeroes. We know that Kiefer Sutherland has taken up voice acting and mo-cap duties for Big Boss/Old Snake in Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid 5, but it's not outside the real of possibility that Hayter might also add his gruff tones, if only for this one-off mission.

For that matter, we're curious to know how this polygonal Solid Snake fits into a story that is supposed to be a prequel to The Phantom Pain, which is set shortly after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. In other words, how is Solid Snake, a clone of Big Boss, alive? It's no wonder Hideo Kojima revealed there would be story inconsistencies in MGSV, because this stuff is hard to follow.

What do you think of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes' polygonal Solid Snake? Is it goofy or awesome? Will you be picking up the PS3 or PS4 version to unlock this exclusive mission?

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes has no release date, but is slated to hit the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
