Released from the secretive files of Kojima Productions comes a few pieces of viral marketing that finally bring us some answers as to what we can expect from the story of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Raiden, also known as Jack, a character introduced in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, will be the main protagonist of Revengeance, and in this viral marketing we get a glimpse of his past.

Transformed from a whiny, rookie agent to a cybernetic, sword wielding, kickass super ninja, Raiden has come a long way since we first met him. Revengeance's plot was originally slated between MGS2 and MGS4, but now the story will cater to the events after Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This series of viral vignettes follow the strange teaser video seen previously, and we now have a better understanding as to what it was all leading up to.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Viral Marketing Videos

These viral marketing videos place our hero in two different times. From what can be deciphered from this jumbled "video data," it appears as though Raiden is in a medical facility becoming the cyborg he is today, before MGS4. But complications arise and we are taken back deep within his memory banks - to his childhood.

Better known as "Jack the Ripper," a feared child soldier in the Liberian civil war, perhaps Raiden's past may come back to haunt him in Revengeance. Throughout the war, led by ex-president George Sears aka Solidus Snake — who can be seen/heard speaking as a mentor in these videos — Raiden endured a lot of mental and physical torture to become the perfect "killing machine." After the events of MGS2, it appears as though he was being made into a different kind of "killing machine."

At the very end of the above video, "Sword," some binary code is highlighted. A commenter at Joystiq translated the code which read "E3." Director from Platinum Games last indicated that a playable demo of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be made available at this year's expo. But is there something more we can expect?

Many die-hard fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise are on the fence and some believe that Kojima Productions has wore itself thin with this spin-off. Platinum Games begs to differ, and although this title is more about action rather than stealth, these viral videos depict a deeper story than some may have assumed.

Ranters, do you believe these viral videos are leading up to a better storyline within Revengeance?

There is no current release date set for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but expect its release on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
