Metal Gear Rising Revengeance E3 Demo

Christmas will come early for those anxiously awaiting new footage for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Director of Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima, has recently made it public that the developers of the game will release early footage of the franchise spinoff before E3. What's in store for us? A Dark Raiden perhaps.

Through the recent series of news encompassing Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Tatsuya Minami (CEO of Platinum Games) and producer Atsushi Inaba had announced that Revengeance would make a grand appearance at E3 2012 though we know not what that could entail. A series of viral videos surfaced recently that put fans in the perspective of Raiden, the game's main protagonist. Revealing bare-bones information, we can presumably believe that Raiden's childhood may come back to haunt him in Revengeance.

Hideo Kojima is so excited for E3 and the release of Revengeance that he tweeted that some of the E3 demo footage would be shown prior to the big expo as a teaser of sorts. A date has not been set as to when we might see this footage, but with E3 less than two weeks away, we should expect it soon! This news also came with some details regarding the above screenshot, which was also tweeted by Kojima last week.

Seen above is the first image that will be shown at the E3 demo. Kojima refers to this as "Dark Raiden" and it was this image that provided the inspiration behind Kojima's decision to deliver the E3 footage early. Kojima was not one to give answers, but he suggests gamers who are interested to ask games producer, Yuji Korekado on Twitter.

"I can't say much beyond this, but why he's 'Black/Dark Raiden' is a secret."

Who is Dark Raiden? Based on the viral videos, perhaps someone may have tampered with Raiden's cybernetic systems and memory banks? Perhaps Raiden's memories will fuse with his programming and create an alter ego. The word "revengeance" suggests that retribution could be sought out and that we may see Raiden go after those responsible for his miserable childhood in the Liberian civil war. Hopefully these answers and more will be given at E3.

Time will only tell how Raiden's story will unfold and who Dark Raiden is. The story of Metal Gear Rising is set after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. How will this game shape up for the Metal Gear Solid franchise? One thing's for sure, the presence of a "Dark Raiden" is quite intriguing.

A release date has not been set for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but expect a release for Xbox 360 and PS3.
