The first game in the Mercenaries series was hailed as an evolutionary step forward for open world games with its total building destruction, freedom of movement, and ability to spawn the vehicles and weapons you want, where you want. Although the sequel didn’t fare as well, it was still a fun experience nonetheless.
Just a few days ago, following the shutting down of Pandemic Studios, a pitch trailer of a new game in the Mercenaries series surfaced on the internet. That game is Mercs Inc. Check out the trailer below.
Seemingly focusing on the multiplayer aspect is intriguing considering one of the largest problems with the second game in the series was the stability (or lack thereof) of its online component. Considering they seem to be basing the majority, if not all, of this game on its multiplayer, we can only hope that it will be more stable this time around.
Watch and enjoy:
Aside from these gripes though, I’m liking the art style. Although it’s preliminary and bound to look better over time, I’m definitely interested in the cartoony direction they are going which seems akin to Battlefield Heroes.
Upon the trailer being leaked to the public, it didn’t take long before EA officially announced the existence of the game. Being developed by EA Los Angeles, there will still be members of the late Pandemic team working on the game.
Having just been officially announced it’s anyone’s guess when Mercs Inc. will hit store shelves, but you can be sure we’ll have the details when they surface.
Do like what you see so far? What kinds of things would you like to see in the third installment of this series?

Despite the very date graphics, this looks like a TON of fun.
It better support local co-op up to four players… 2 people per console system link would be optimal
Luckily, it’s only a pitch trailer so I can guarantee those aren’t the graphics we’ll see at launch. I really liked the original and there was something about that trailer that really stuck me. I just can’t put my finger on it.
A decent game with a strategy element, pure multiplayer games are not worth the disk they are stamped on, slapping together something quick and cheap to make a few bucks won’t work anymore and will just annoy the fans of the series.
They could do so much with this game, introduce a “you lose” element to it make people think about what thier next move should be and every action has a reaction – If it’s going to be multiplayer based make sure its not just another spray and prey game.
