Part-time McDonalds workers will start using the Nintendo DS as a training tool later this year, in Japan. The Golden Arches is currently developing a software program titled, “eSmart,” but what exactly it will train employees in is unclear.
The franchise will provide around two of the handheld systems to each location, around 3700 shops. Training time is hoped to be cut in half when using the DS, which means faster burgers for our Japanese counterparts.
Since the DS isn’t as much of a cultural phenomena beyond Japan, the practice isn’t likely to pass beyond its shores. Still, it’s amazing to see a handheld gaming console be used in such a fashion. It’s no wonder the thing prints money!
What will they think of using the DS for, next?

Interesting. Japan was already one of those countries that wanted to increase efficiency the best way possible, so using a DS as a training tool seems like a very good idea. I wonder if it's just a weird version of “Cooking Mama”?
I don't understand. Does the DS teach them how to make burgers?
I bet it probably is very similar to cooking mama or one of those restaurant serving games.
Make a Big xtra: Bun, Patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sauce, bun. You're done! Bonus points for speed.
It'll teach how to make all the different sandwiches, how to work the equipment, timing for cooking fries, how often to clean the store, how to close the register…
I'd love to get a hold of that game, sounds kinda fun. haha
I wonder if it includes remakes of the Mcdonalds based Genesis/Mega Drive classics: Treasure Island & Global Gladiators.
that's why Mcdonalds Japan is #2 in the world
