Max Payne 3 releases in nearly 2 months, a very long 2 months, but it's coming. Rockstar Games has seen fit to start the new year by releasing some brand new screenshots for the game, with an emphasis on its highly touted multiplayer mode.

Steadily releasing information on Max Payne 3 leading up to the holidays, Rockstar earned a lot of buzz with the most recent announcement having to do with the game's multiplayer and how interestingly, the single-player campaign will influence it.

The storyline for Max Payne 3 has remained rather hush-hush, albeit for the very basics of the plot that were revealed in the first Max Payne 3 trailer. Similar to Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar wants to reduce the amount of spoilers in order to preserve a "magical" experience and who can blame them? The Max Payne series has always been focused on delivering a very gritty and noir influenced story and the third game is no exception. In fact, it's taking Max to a much darker place and to reveal to much of that would be counter productive to the final product.

Aside from the readable details for Max Payne 3, Rockstar Games has also started releasing a video series focusing on how they're changing the shooter formula. The first part of the series, "Creating A Cutting Edge Shooter" is available now to view, with others on their way as the game approaches release.

Let's get to the heart of the matter, the brand new screenshots that depict the game's multiplayer in action. From the looks of things, the "team deathmatch" seems to be ever present, but as further investigation of the screenshots reveals, there is also going to be a sort of Capture the Flag mode where the flag is a duffel bag that might be filled with illicit substances.

As you can tell from the in-game images, the graphics and presentation is pretty darn attractive. More details for the actual multiplayer modes would be incredibly welcome, and will probably come in the form of a new video showcase Rockstar will be releasing within the next two months. We can't wait to step back into the shoes of the most grizzled man in video games.

Max Payne 3 releases March 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
