‘Mass Effect 3′ Wii U Includes ‘From Ashes’ & Multiplayer DLC

From Ashes Included With Mass Effect 3 Wii U

Mass Effect 3 will be coming to the Wii U at launch, and with it a smattering of bonus content. Those purchasing BioWare’s epic on the Wii U can look forward to most of the game’s DLC and an exclusive weapon included free of charge.

Included with Mass Effect 3 Wii U will be  the widely criticized add-on, From Ashes. From Ashes received sizable fan backlash when it was revealed that it would be sold as day one DLC. Many felt cheated, as the $9.99 add-on content was not only painfully short but also centered around the fabled Prothean species – an integral component of the series’ lore. In the end, From Ashes failed to compare to past BioWare DLC offerings, ultimately eliciting less-than-favorable reviews (including our own).

Wii U owners will also have access to an exclusive heavy weapon, the M-597 Ladon. Joining the extra singleplayer content is all of the currently released multiplayer DLC. From the get go, Mass Effect 3 Wii U owners will have access to the Resurgence, Rebellion, and Earth map packs. This all comes in addition to the Extended Cut DLC, which had previously been confirmed for the Wii U version.

Mass Effect 3 From Ashes DLC Wii U

While the Wii U version of the game comes with the majority of the Mass Effect 3 DLC – most of which is available for free on other platforms – there is a noticeable component missing: Leviathan. The latest piece of Mass Effect 3 DLC was releases in late August for the PS3, 360 and PC, however has yet be confirmed for a Wii U release. It’s likely that Leviathan will release at a later date through the Wii U’s online store, though it would have been good on EA to include it as part of the full package.

Mass Effect 3 will release alongside the Wii U on November 18th. The game was released on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in March.

  1. Why not charge Wii U users for the DLC? Just because it’s finished? It was finished when it released on other platforms, too, but it still wasn’t free.

    • Are you getting a Wii U?

      • I am getting one eventually, but my complaints have nothing to do with Nintendo, but rather EA. Look at history: when Oblivion released for PS3 a year or so after it was out for 360, it didn’t come with free DLC. Also, when Mass Effect 2 released for PS3 a year after the 360 version, it didn’t come with free DLC either, so why should the Wii U with Mass Effect 3, not even a year after it released for other consoles?

        • the PS3 version came with all DLC except for the skins and guns. It also didn’t come with arrival bc it wasn’t out yet. This is normal for games to release versions with DLC included when the game has been out for a while. I can’t believe someone is actually mad at EA for giving something for free.

          • He is angry because they are not giving him the DLC for free, so why should Wii U owners get it for free? He has a legitimate gripe here, I am with Unbuild on this one. EA should release the same game we all bought back in March. If Wii U owners want the SP DLC they can pay for it like we did. I am fine with them getting the free MP DLC, but when they get stuff for free that I had to pay for that pisses me off.

          • So…day 1 paid DLC is ok now…

I’m of the opinion that if its finished it should be on the disk…Leviathan, From Ashes and the Extended Cut DLC all look finished to me…

          • So I’m guessing that you are against GOTY editions that come out A YEAR LATER with all DLC included. Your logic makes no sense.

          • No, GOTY editions are fine, because it’s the entire package. Usually, GOTY editions release after the price has dropped quite a bit. For instance, when Borderlands dropped to $30, you could pick up the GOTY edition for $60. The extra price made up for the DLC.

@Cariannis, I understand your problem with day 1 paid DLC, but I understand why it exists. From Ashes should have been free just because it was such an important part of the story, but had it been some extra thing that didn’t matter (such as Bring Down The Sky), then I can understand them charging for it. The thing is, while it was done by the time the game launched, games go gold months ahead of their release date, and the DLC was finished between the time that the game was finished and the release date. They released the DLC alongside the game so that it is available day one. They could have postponed the finished DLC a month or two just to make sure people were not pissed off that it wasn’t free, but why make people wait? Just because some people don’t understand why it wasn’t on the disc? Now, griping about it being paid is understandable just because it’s about the Protheans, but if it had been some extra side story, then it’s fine that it’s paid.

    • Oh I’m sure they plan on charging them for Leviathan and any other DLC that comes out, but you’re right it was finished when the game released, should’ve been included for everyone.

    • What’s the problem with not charging the Wii U users? Seriously, how does that help you? This just confuses me. Anyways, I’m thinking they’re not charging them because the Wii U version will have been released a while after the original release. That’s the only reason I can think of.

      • That’s Why I asked him if he is getting one. People are hating everything about this system for the wrong reasons.

        • Or, in most cases, for no reason. I hope one day, people will realize they don’t have to buy something if they don’t like it.

          • ^Read my reply on eddoes’ original comment, because it’s the same reply I’d give you. I don’t understand why when someone criticizes something, everyone assumes “Oh you hate the system, so stop complaining and don’t buy it.” I don’t hate the Wii U, or Nintendo. Do I think it should’ve been released a few years earlier? Sure. Do I think this entire thing is a dumb idea on Nintendo’s part? Absolutely. Even with all this, I’ll still be buying one as soon as some exclusives worth paying for are released, mainly Zelda. However, original comment was not even criticism towards Nintendo, but rather towards EA. Just because it’s specifically talking about the Wii U, you assumed that my criticism was directed at Nintendo, but you took what I said out of context.

    • youre still critisizing something theyre giving away for free. to me your not mad at either youre just jealous that you payed for a crappy dlc like so many others.

      • No, I’m upset because they’re basically giving them a GOTY edition, but they’re the only console that gets it.

    • Now you hate EA for it? Smh EA can’t do anything right in some people’s eyes.

      • I don’t hate EA, they’re actually one of my favorite publishers, but they don’t always make the best decisions. Why give Nintendo users free content when other people were charged for it?

  2. Should come with all the DLC really.

    • @DrSamBeckett

      Agreed.
