‘Mass Effect 3′ Update Addresses Face Bug But Not Multiplayer

Mass Effect 3 Face Patch

In addition to the Mass Effect 3: Resurgence Pack adding free unlockable multiplayer content for Mass Effect 3 next week, the game is also receiving some needed updates that address a few bugs and the infamous custom face loading issue that hampered the experience for many players before they could even get into the game.

Unfortunately, the face issue correction is a simply too late for the majority of Mass Effect 3 players who’ve already beaten the game, and there are a few issues, specifically with multiplayer, not addressed here at all.

The patch will be available on PC on Monday, April 9th and the PS3/Xbox 360 version will hit the following day – the same day Resurgence releases! Here are the patch notes:

  • Fixed issues when in some cases Shepard’s customized facial features from ME1/ME2 may not be properly imported to ME3.
  • Fixed an issue when quickly and repeatedly selecting to Resume a Save could result in Player Level reset and a potential locking of powers.
  • Fixed an issue when selecting Multiplayer in the Main Menu while under a poor network connection could result in an unresponsive state.
  • Fixed a potential crash while accessing an in-game terminal from Eden Prime level.
  • Fixed an issue when attempting to login while Server is down. It would display a Server Down message and accepting the Server Shutdown message would shut down the game.
  • Fixed a potential memory crash while loading a Quick Save of a custom FemShep.
  • Fixed an issue when restarting missions and acquiring an above max amount of weapon mods results in displayed debug text on-screen.
  • Fixed an issue when an unresponsive game state could occur during transition after the Conduit level.
  • Fixed an issue when DLC game saves can be accessed from an account without DLC if another account on the same computer has access to the related DLC. (PC Only).
  • Fixed an issue when saves from different accounts on the same computer may become locked if one account has access to DLC which the other account does not. (PC Only).
  • Fixed an issue when potentially the game could enter unresponsive state when transitioning from the Holding Docks area to the Normandy Docks area of the Citadel. (PS3 Only).

Many players are now spending their time in multiplayer once completing Mass Effect 3′s story campaign, especially now that there are new characters, maps and weapons coming next week. Those who’ve played the game, know there are severe loading times in joining and completing matches, made worse by the occasional connection error. There are also some odd spawning issues with enemy NPCs where they get stuck in inaccessible places in the map (it’s even happened to players).

How did I get up there in the Rafters and why am I stuck?

Due to the design of the game, a lot of the unlockable items found in reinforcement packs are one-time use upgrades and buffs, but if there’s a connection error, a host changes or players drop out, there’s no way to cancel the game and save those items. If there’s an error, you also lose ALL of your progress of that match, even if you’ve spent half an hour playing and are on the final wave. You’re screwed and we were hoping BioWare would offer some sort of workaround so players don’t lose those items, credits and experience in cases like that since it’s a co-op game and not competitive.

Maybe with the next patch?

The Operation Beachhead multiplayer event began 6PM PST Thursday April 5 and runs until 5AM PST Tuesday April 10, when this DLC will become available.

Mass Effect 3 is now available for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

  1. Meh. I guess it’s a plus

  2. There are a dozen bugs that should have been fixed in this but that’ll do pig that’ll do.

  3. They’re fixing face important issues, but what about inability to important all of your ME2 characters? I had 3 games from ME2 that I wanted to important into ME3 to play and only one of those games shows up in the new one. So if I want to replay the game I will have to start a whole new game and I won’t get the choices I made from the previous two.

  4. I can attest to the MP clipping issues. Just yesterday two people tried to revive me at the same time, resulting in my being trapped under the map for the rest of the game….but I somehow got 5 melee kills while I was there so I’m not complaining…. :D

    • thats nothing one time i was playing my drell adept and i died someone was trying to revive me and my body was hovering up in the air the whole time like a star scared one of my teammates when he entered forgot it was glitched

  5. Hey guys, this is my comment, it was off-topic spam so it was edited.

  6. Let’s talk about the fact that joining a friend’s game means facing a loading screen to return to the main menu of the game, the another loading screen, then a character select screen, then another loading screen, and THEN you’re in. How about I just join their lobby like every other multiplayer game made in the last 10 years?

Or how about falling through the bottom of the map and just being in space for thirty minutes or until your team wipes?

  7. Man, people sure do love to bitch and moan. I loved Mass Effect 3. I thought the ending should have been more detailed and clear cut, but I have no real issues with the game. I had several save games imported from ME2, I had no problem with the face import from my first one, I’m on my second one now and I did have a problem with the character import but I don’t see this as being a huge deal. Set up a new face and get on with it. Stop whining over little things, which for the most part can be rectified. Your face isn’t exactly the same? Really? That’s your complaint? Why not be thankful that this game is one of the few where you can actually customize your look? People really are unbelievable. Overall the game is fantastic, hopefully the upcoming DLC resolves some of the complaints about the ending.

    • If people are upset about it and you don’t get it… the issue is that you don’t get, lol. And it’s probably because it didn’t happen to you.

  8. I don’t know what it is with Bioware over the past few years, but the quality of there product releases has really gone downhill. Some would side with the “Blame EA” train and they probably are right on some regards such as tight schedules, etc…but ultimately the buck stops with Bioware and the fact they have been releasing games with serious problems that should have been caught during the QA stages of production.

First we had the now infamous corrupted save game issue with Dragon Age 2, then we had the horrendous (despite how many view it with rose tinted glasses let’s be honest here, unfinished and untested product it was)release of Star Wars: The Old Republic…

Now we come to Mass Effect 3 which despite Bioware releasing a product worthy of it’s praise..is dogged with seriously hampering and quite devestating bugs and issues.

Is EA to blame for this? I don’t think they are, I personally believe the QA department at Bioware is exceptionally sloppy and skating over problems so they can get it out of the door quicker. This could be due to EA’s influence, but something seriously needs to change at Biowares QA department as they are tarnishing what was one of the better game developer portfolios out there.

10gb of fix patch after release is to be quite frank…ludicrous and it would serve Bioware well to start looking into just it is there QA department are doing because they clearly are not testing products properly!
