Commander Shepard's final mission (depending on how you view the closing of the game's campaign) has arrived in the form of Mass Effect 3: Citadel. And to send the galaxy's savior off in style, the developers at BioWare have crafted a mission to bring all past characters back into the fray.

If the official trailer is anything to go by, that means plenty of laughs, a lot of action, and more than enough chances to enjoy some romantic encounters by the time it's done. Still no co-op story missions though (sorry).

As was evidenced in the 'Citadel' screenshots previously released, the conspiracy to find and kill Commander Shepard will send the Normandy's commanding officer into some death-defying locales. He'll need every bit of help that he can get from the likes of Urdnot Wrex, Liara T'Soni, and the downloadable crew member Zaeed Massani (in one of the late Robin Sachs' last roles).

Of course, that doesn't mean even the bravest fighters need a bit of downtime. As can be seen in the trailer, Shepard will now be given a living space on the Citadel, complete with a space-piano, space-television, and unless we're mistaken, a space-jacuzzi (the romance angle is being pushed pretty hard).

With almost every past potential romantic partner shown in the trailer, there's a good chance that more time and energy will be spent on rounding out the relationships players had built over the past games. Since those were some of the series' most successful aspects where player investment was concerned, that's a good thing.

When Shepard is done rekindling old flames (although after seeing Miranda's outfit, we're not making any promises) there is also the new Silver Coast Casino and additional combat arena to pass the time. A good chunk of the released achievements seem to be connected to proficiency in the combat simulator, so hopefully the challenge is worth the time investment for completionists.

As testament to just how large a mission has been crafted for players with 'Citadel,' BioWare has confirmed that it is too large for the 2GB limit for Xbox Live add-on content. As a result, Xbox 360 owners will need to download 'Part 1' of the DLC for the standard $14.99 price, then download 'Part 2' which is available for free. We can't say how satisfying the content will be, but BioWare wasn't joking that this would be the most substantial DLC for the game yet.

Mass Effect 3: Citadel releases for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on March 5 for $14.99.
