Insomniac Games has been very quiet about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 since it was first revealed. Though there have been some new hires at Insomniac, and the game was recently given a more concise release window of Fall 2023, fans are limited to the first trailer as far as a look at the game is concerned. Still, with two Spider-Men, Kraven, and Venom confirmed, many are understandably excited, and 2023 will give players several more reasons to be hyped.

Not only is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 set to release sometime between September and December 2023, but gamers can expect the months before its release window to be packed with announcements and reveals. Marketing is key to any game’s success, and with Insomniac’s first two Marvel’s Spider-Man games being hugely successful, Sony will surely want to make sure that all PlayStation owners are ready for the two wall-crawlers’ next outing. A variety of trailers and gameplay demonstrations could be a great way to get PlayStation owners excited.

Though it remains to be seen if Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will get a dedicated State of Play like some other PlayStation exclusives, fans can certainly expect a number of trailers to be released. From a gameplay perspective, these trailers could highlight Peter and Miles’ different abilities, with Iron Spider legs seemingly set to be a major addition to the original Spider-Man’s arsenal. New gadgets and traversal mechanics can also be highlighted, as well as a breakdown of how switching between Miles and Peter will work - assuming that it is even a feature.

Story-focused trailers and PlayStation Blog posts that highlight new and returning characters would also be welcome, as fans currently know nothing about the actual plot of the sequel. How Kraven gets involved in Marvel's Spider-Man 2's story and whether Venom’s host is still able to be reached by Peter is unclear, as fans do not even have proper confirmation that Harry Osborn is the man behind Insomniac’s Symbiote. Fortunately, with several months of time to advertise the game, fans can expect the first half of 2023 to bring some exciting info about the game’s narrative.

Lastly, with two Spider-Men featured in the game, fans can expect numerous alternate costumes to be featured within Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Given how much the series’ player base loves swapping between the friendly neighborhood hero’s many outfits, many would surely be happy to see some of the suits that will be included in the game ahead of its release. Though many of the alternate suits from the previous games will likely return, Insomniac could post an image of a new comic book or movie-inspired costume every few weeks, keeping Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on the minds of fans at all times.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Fall 2023 Release

Assuming all goes as planned, eventually the trailers and reveals will cease as the actual game will be released near the end of 2023. Though nothing is guaranteed in the gaming industry, it seems likely that the game will sell and review well going off of Insomniac’s track record and the performance of the previous entries in the franchise. The game may launch with a collector’s edition as well, similar to the first Marvel’s Spider-Man and its Sinister Six-focused statue.

Lastly, it is worth addressing the topic of whether Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will get DLC. Right now, it could go either way, as though some big PlayStation exclusives like Horizon Forbidden West get expansions, it seems like God of War Ragnarok might not get DLC at all. Similarly, though the original Marvel’s Spider-Man had its City That Never Sleeps DLC, Spider-Man: Miles Morales offered no new story content. Still, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 being a bigger game than the Miles-led spin-off, it does have a better chance at getting DLC, but fans should not count on anything. If it does happen, it could be revealed in 2023, though it would likely not be released until 2024. Regardless, fans of the webslinger have a lot to look forward to this year.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in Fall 2023 for PS5.
