There are quite a few fans out there that hold Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in high regards, loving both its extensive roster and massive stock of alternate character costumes. But the title wouldn't be such a bout without the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. The well-received fighter helped shape what Ultimate MvC3 would become and there is a lot to love about what Capcom crafted with the 2011 release.

One of the best aspects of MvC3 was its alternate costumes, which gave specific color schemes to some of the most beloved characters in both Capcom and Marvel lore. Developers didn't simply "toss" these colors out randomly either, especially when it came to Marvel's roster. Characters were given colors based on past comic appearances, video games, older MvC releases, and even films. The results are spectacular to look at, even today. To better showcase the love given to Marvel's characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, here's a look at all of the alternate outfits for each hero or villain.

Captain America

Captain America fans get three alternate costumes to choose from that are based on pivotal moments and characters found throughout the hero's long-running series. His bright red suit resembles Red Guardian, the Russian Soviet counterpart that first appeared in 1991's Namor the Sub-Mariner Annual #1. The bright green attire is a callback to an alternate color scheme found in Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes and his stark black outfit is an homage to Punisher War Journal Vol 2 #7.

Deadpool

The Merc with a Mouth has a couple of subdued alternate designs, with one banana-yellow affair sticking out like a sore thumb. Deadpool comic fans will notice a resemblance to the "alternate version" of the character found in Weapon X: Days of Future Now Vol 1. The black and red duds are a callback to his Weapon X costume and the black and white suit references a time when he was part of the X-Force.

Dr. Doom

Dr. Doom gets three black-based designs with the first featuring colors based on his Doom 2099 appearance. The red-cloaked version also comes from Doom 2099, as the color scheme for an alternate version of the character. The blacked-out look is based on a design featured in Old Man Logan.

Dormammu

Dormammu gets a smattering of outfits that reference some older comic appearances. The bright red design is from Captain America/Nick Fury: The Otherworld War #1, while the purple-lined costume is based on his appearance during the 1990s. The oldest callback is his third choice, which flips the color of his core from red to blue. This firey contrast is based on his design found in 1964's Strange Tales Vol 1 #126.

Hulk
