New Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Gameplay Vids Highlight New Characters

Ready for the shocker of all shockers? I am talking about the shocker that Capcom used Tokyo Game Show as a venue to officially announce two new characters for their upcoming fighter Marvel vs. Capcom 3. After previously announcing new characters at E3, Comic Con, and GDC, it was kind of expected more would see the light of day at TGS. And sure enough, X-23 and Tron Bonne are officially in. I know, not a huge surprise, especially considering how the previously released — and awesome — trailer showed Tron Bonne dealing out the hurt, and the game’s official site listed X-23 as a character prior to TGS actually starting… but still, it is, like, officially official now.

And to help make it officially, official (you know like when guys used to give girls their sweater, or pin or something) Capcom decided to give us some shots of X-23 and Tron Bonne battling away in game. How splendid!

And while pictures are always nice and pretty and all, and worth a 1,000 words — so they say — perhaps more importantly, the fine people at Capcom also decided to unleash some sweet trailers with X-23 and Tron Bonne kicking butt.

Pretty cool, am I right? Am I right? Man, while I sometimes get annoyed at Capcom’s slow release of character announcements, I have to admit I get jazzed up every time they drop some new gameplay footage. Seriously, am I only one that started singing DMX’s X Gon’ Give It To Yaduring the X-23 fight scenes? Okay, maybe don’t answer that question, maybe I was the only one, whatever, this game continues to look sweeter and sweeter.

And while I will likely never play as X-23 or Tron Bonne in the game itself, I like seeing them both included. Tron Bonne is just a fun character in the Capcom universe and I like seeing some lesser known Marvel characters getting time too. Sure X-23 has been featured more in the comics, but she still is not a big name like Cap, Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc. I just hope Capcom gives her a unique move list and doesn’t just have her be a reskinned slightly faster, slightly weaker Wolverine.

Capcom is bringing the heat at TGS this year for sure. I wonder if at the next trade show Capcom will reveal an alternate Dante costume so he looks like the recently announced Ninja Theory Devil May Cry reboot character. That would be kind of cool.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is set to hit shelves for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in the Spring of 2011.
