Hulk Leads ‘Avengers Initiative’ Episodic Mobile Game

Sep 6, 2012 by

Marvel Super Hero Squad Online services the young gaming demographic, Marvel: Avengers Alliance on Facebook hits the casual crowd, and the upcoming free-to-play Marvel Heroes aims to target the core PC gamer. For mobile gamers, you now have something new to enjoy as well from the growing franchise: Avengers Initiative.

S.H.I.E.L.D. has been briefing us about this game for a few weeks via Marvel XP videos and today it’s available to download. The first Hulk-centric episode anyway. The good news is that Wideload Games’ Avengers Initiative is not a movie tie-in. Instead, the iOS and Android cross-over game represents Marvel’s biggest push into the mobile market yet.

The Marvel XP system is a new service that aims to bridge the game between multiple Marvel games and players can sign up now via the Marvel: Avengers Alliance game that launched around The Avengers theatrical release to 9+ million players. The player count is approaching half of that now but for players who’ve lost interest, Marvel XP can track achievements between it and other games, while also unlocking new content.

Marvel Avengers Initiative - Hulk

Avengers Initiative is the first episode in a planned ongoing series of games now available on the App markets for $6.99/£4.99. Players take on the role of Bruce Banner’s big angry green alter ego as the Hulk to fight key villains from his rogues gallery and the larger Marvel universe, including Wendigo, Abomination, Kronan, and the Skrulls.

As the player progresses, Hulk’s stats and abilities can be upgraded, gear can be equipped, and he can even be suited up in a variety of costumes from Marvel Comics.

Players who purchase the game get access to the ongoing story with free updates that will add more story and gameplay in the coming months. The story will undoubtedly continue with players taking on the role of the other five Avengers featured in the film and in the SHIELD briefing videos (Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Black Widow).

Avengers Initiative is available now for select iOS and Android devices.

  1. 1. Marvel, please, make a GOOD Avengers game. Not a Kinect abortion, not a mobile game, not a facebook game, a console game. The THQ one looked awesome, and this other stuff…it don’t look good.

    2. Why is this mobile only? Talk about a missed market.
