A talented YouTuber known as Dark Pixel puts together a video of what a mashup between Mario Kart and Star Wars would look like. As it turns out, it's pretty damn cool.

Some of the wildest gaming-related dreams are tied to mashups. There's always something so interesting about seeing characters or settings from different universes interact with ones from another, which is why titles like Super Smash Bros. have amassed such a large following. Of course, there are some crossovers that seem like things of fantasy rather than something that could actually come to fruition, and a recent video that combines the universes of Mario Kart and Star Wars (appropriately titled Star Kart) is just that.

Pieced together rather expertly by a YouTuber that goes by the handle Dark Pixel, the content creator's video throws iconic Super Mario characters into all too familiar spaceships from the Star Wars franchise. The race featured in the mock gameplay trailer plays out with a slight narrative, with the finale mimicking the big Death Star run featured at the end of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.

Sufficed to say, it's well worth checking out for fans of either franchise, and it can be seen in all of its glory below:

The odds of such a game ever existing are rather small, but it's still cool to see what something like Star Kart would look like. With that in mind, gamers can now affectively file this gem away alongside other mashups like LEGO The Last of Us and the ever-popular Destiny and Mad Men crossover video. The best part is that there will undoubtedly be plenty of additional fan-made mashups coming in due time, and if they're anything as good as this then consumers will be in for a real treat.

Meanwhile, fans of both properties featured in the video have a rather eventful year ahead of them. Mario only just recently starred in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam for the Nintendo 3DS, while a brand new Star Wars spin-off film, titled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is set to arrive in theaters this December. Keeping that in mind, it's possible that both franchises will have other surprises in store for their respective fans as well, with rumors regarding a potential Paper Mario sequel on Wii U being one of the larger possibilities.
