‘Mario Kart 8’ Mercedes DLC Coming to North America

By | 1 year ago

It was one of the silliest product tie-ins we’d ever seen in a video game, and now it’s headed to North America. That’s right, the Mercedes GLA kart that was initially revealed as a Japan exclusive tie-in is reportedly coming to North American versions of Mario Kart 8.

While Nintendo of America didn’t share too many specifics, they promise that a GLA-class kart (of some sort) will hit Mario Kart 8 at some point this summer. NOA says more details will follow soon.

For those who have been following all things Mario Kart 8, let us bring you up to speed. In late May, Nintendo announced a tie-in with Mercedes that put a GLA-class kart into the game. Obviously, because a real world SUV and a video game kart aren’t exactly the same, Nintendo had to take some liberties when designing this Mercedes tie-in. But still, for a real world car in a cartoon-y video game, the GLA kart looks pretty good.

However, when Nintendo first announced the tie-in they claimed it was a Japanese exclusive. They didn’t rule out the possibility of the GLA-class kart coming to North America or Europe, but, at the time, they didn’t have anything to say on the matter. Now it appears the kart is heading to North America.

Mario Kart 8 has become something of a cultural phenomenon for Nintendo as of late, more so than any other Wii U release thus far. From the Luigi Death Stare meme to this Mercedes tie-in, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who wasn’t at least casually familiar with the racing franchise’s recent launch.

In fact, plenty of Wii U owners were apparently chomping at the bit to get their hands on Mario Kart 8, as the title sold extremely well in its first few days of release. Not only that, but Mario Kart 8 is already the fastest selling Wii U title of all time.

So, for those gamers who helped the title achieve that impressive milestone: there’s a fun little piece of DLC on the way. Prepare your Luigi Death Stare in a Mercedes memes accordingly.

Are you ready to roll out in a new Mercedes GLA-class kart? Do you think there should be more of these types of crossovers for Mario Kart 8?
