Pokemon Announcement

There's no debating the fact that Mario is the most popular franchise in Nintendo's arsenal, but a close second is easily the incredibly popular Pokemon series. After the latest pair of games managed to become the fastest selling 3DS titles of all-time, it wasn't surprising to see another duo of core series installments announced for release later this November in the form of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Those upcoming iterations, coupled with a bizarre spin-off in the form of Pokemon Art Academy, appear to be everything that fans will be getting in 2014. While it's still a strong possibility that gamers will have to make due with the aforementioned new software, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have announced that they have a major announcement pertaining to the Pocket Monster franchise later this month.

While announcing announcements has become an all too familiar thing in the gaming industry, this one sounds as if it'll be a big deal for longtime Pokemon fans. The reveal will kick off on August 26 at 10 p.m. JST (better known as 10 a.m. EST to North American gamers) in the form of a stream called "Monthly Famitsu featuring Pokemon Special" on NicoNico.

The official description for the reveal simply states that "this summer, details of a stunning new project from Pokemon will be announced." Sadly, it doesn't allude to what content will be on display during the stream but it will be hosted by Ayana Tsubaki and  Bunbun-maru, as well as the president of The Pokemon Company himself, Tsunekazu Ishihara. Voice actors from the anime will also be present and they'll be joined by two mystery guests — further adding to the allure of the impending announcement.

It's possible that this reveal doesn't have anything to do video games and could relate to the Pokemon anime or even the manga. That said, it's always nice to dream about finally getting that long awaited console version of the core RPG franchise. Only time will tell, so stay tuned to Game Rant for more details on the big announcement as soon as it drops.
