Luigi's Mansion 3 has a lot of good things going for it. The gameplay is good, the graphics are amazing, and a constant pro that is given for the game is that the creativity with bosses and dialogue is superb. The bosses in this game are much better than the original Luigi’s Mansion, and especially Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon.

While this game wasn’t super difficult to complete, there were times where bosses could give Luigi some trouble, especially if he, or the player, hadn’t mastered the abilities they needed for victory. This could make some bosses seem like hurdles rather than challenges. These are some of the hardest bosses in Luigi’s Mansion 3.

Updated December 9, 2021 by Kirkland Fortner: Following its release on (fittingly) Halloween of 2019, Luigi's Mansion 3 quickly became the most loved game in the series. The bosses on the list are one of the main reasons why. These level-completing enemies have great designs and tons of character. They are also prepared to take Luigi on with some very interesting moves in their arsenal.

However, it's not enough just to know them and their characteristics. Players also love to have pro tips on defeating these bosses. With that said, let's take a look at a few tips and techniques for making the most of these classic boss battles.

10 Chef Soulffle

Fighting this crazy chef will provide Luigi with a decent challenge. What’s hard about Chef Soulffle isn’t the fact that he’s complicated to figure out. His pattern is simple. He will spin around the room with his trusty frying pan, trying to smack Luigi because our favorite scaredy-cat plumber has just ruined the preparation of his meal. The problem is, sometimes the method to get a free hit changes, forcing Luigi to take a hit. Never fear dear player, there are two ways to take him down.

After he’s tired, Luigi can use the Suction Shot to pull Soulffle's pan away from him. However, sometimes the Suction Shot fails to attach to the pan. This causes Luigi to be too close and leads to him getting smacked in the face. Alternatively, Luigi can shoot food at him! That's right, whether it be a melon or a fish bouncing around the room, just catch it with suction and then shoot it at the chef to knock his pan away. This makes for a very entertaining food fight.

9 King MacFrights

The king of Castle MacFrights was heavily featured in trailers of the game, and the challenge of this battle is in the middle of being difficult and easy. In the first phase, he will circle around the arena and attempt to charge Luigi. The very beginning of this charge is when the player can hit him with a Strobulb flash, as he is immune to it otherwise. Luigi then must attach a Suction Shot to the target on his armor, pulling his armor away in pieces. Do this 3 times and this phase is over.

The number of arrows fired from the back wall increases with the King's armor damage. After destroying his armor, he’ll take on a role similar to Chef Souffle, spinning around with his sword and shield, making himself dizzy. This is where Luigi can use the Strobulb to stun him and then begin sucking him in. Do this repeatedly until the battle ends.

8 Dr. Potter

The Garden Suites are considered to be one of the hardest floors in the series, but it also has one of the most annoying bosses, Dr. Potter. His potted plant will do all of the attacking, attempting to bite, swing and lunge at Luigi. The lunging attack is the one the player wants to pay close attention to. Make it use the lunge on one of the various glowing bulbs around the room, causing it to get stuck. Luigi then must pick up the buzz saw in the back of the room and use it to cut off the plant's stem.

This will cause Dr. Potter to drop the plant, allowing Luigi to use the Strobulb on him to deal damage with the Poltergust. The pattern of this battle does not change, so simply follow this strategy until victory.

7 Hellen Gravely

As the second to last fight, one would expect Hellen Gravely to be a difficult boss. She becomes a harder version of the fights against Jonny Deepend and Kruller, mixing the use of Gooigi in the fight. When played co-op, this fight becomes a lot easier than it needs to be. But running solo requires looking at the high ground and low ground, while also dodging the lasers, as well as Hellen Gravely herself while using Gooigi to shut down the laser grid. This is probably one of the harder solo bosses, but if you do it with another person, it becomes far easier.

How To Defeat Hellen Gravely

Hellen Gravely Boss Fight From Luigi's Mansion 3

The fight begins with a machine in the center of the room rising and firing a small laser around the arena. The laser can be jumped over using a Burst. After a few rounds of this, the machine will start to fire several differently colored laser grid walls instead, and some vents will appear in the room. These walls will damage Luigi if they touch him, so the player must use Gooigi to fall through the vents and go underground, leading to the machine's controls.

The switches are color-coded to each wall. Half of them can be deactivated by just interacting with them, while the other half requires a Suction Shot. Meanwhile, Hellen will occasionally attack in the main arena using her mirror. This can be avoided by just running from her. The mirror will eventually get stuck in the ground when she uses it, allowing Luigi to hit her with a Strobulb flash, but it's best to turn off all of the colored walls before doing so.

The only change that happens to this fight over time is that the red laser will increase from one at a time to 3 stacked on top of each other. This cannot be avoided with a Burst, so just run from it.

6 Ug

This fight is honestly a surprise on the ninth floor. Before Luigi fights Ug proper, he must destroy the T-Rex fossil that Ug is possessing. For the first hit, just fire the eggs that fall in the room. The first egg will get stuck in its mouth, the second egg needs to hit the ribs to deal damage. The second hit is the exact same except the player replaces the first egg with Gooigi.

After the second hit, the T-Rex fossil will begin to move around freely. It has two attacks in this phase, a tailspin that can be jumped over with a Burst, and a screech that Luigi just has to outrun. The T-Rex will destroy parts of the arena, revealing fossil debris that can be sucked up with the Poltergust and fired at the boss's ribs whenever it raises its foot or begins to charge up another screech. Repeat this until the first phase ends.

Once the fossil is destroyed, Ug himself will be revealed. He has 2 very basic attacks. One is a light slam that Luigi can just run to avoid, the other is a heavy slam the produces a shockwave, which can be avoided by using a Burst to propel Luigi over it. Whenever Luigi avoids a shockwave, Ug's weapon will be stuck in the ground, allowing the player to use the Strobulb on him. This fight does not change as he takes more damage, so keep this up and Ug will eventually run out of health.

5 Polterkitty

While not considered a major boss, Polterkitty harasses Luigi twice in the game, stealing the elevator button he just collected and running to other floors to hide (rather than taking them to her owner to end Luigi’s adventure, but whatever). Luigi then has to go back to three floors while tracking down the cat. The first time you see her, she’ll hide in rooms where Luigi has to shine a light on her, showing her true, monstrous form.

Polterkitty's fight is extremely simple but precise. All she does is slowly sneak up on you while your back is turned, and charge up an attack, which is the opportune moment to hit her with the Strobulb. The issue is that the timing for this is extremely tight. It's best to use the Strobulb at the absolute last second before she actually attacks. It will most likely take the player several attempts before they understand the timing.

4 Captain Fishook

Captain Fishook is located in the Spectral Catch where he chooses to possess a ship in order to eat Luigi. Captain Fishook begins by possessing the floor of the arena, manifesting a face similar to its ghost form. Other ghosts in the area will throw lit TNT barrels across the room that can be picked up with the Poltergust. These then must be fired into the face's mouth whenever it's open.

Doing this 3 times will force Captain Fishook out of the ship. From there it will use 2 hook swings to attempt to damage Luigi, one of which gets stuck in the ground, allowing the use of the Strobulb. After Fishook takes some damage, a repeat of the possessed floor phase will happen, and so will a repeat of the ghost phase, both of which will play out exactly the same.

After this, the third phase of the battle commences with Captain Fishook possessing the wall rather than the floor. It will start to tilt the ship in an attempt to make Luigi fall into its mouth. This can be avoided by firing a Suction Shot on the target at the opposite wall to hang on. Then, a phase very similar to the possessed floor takes place, where 3 TNT barrels must be thrown into the wall's mouth for the fight to progress.

Captain Fishook will tilt the ship again, and this is also avoided with a Suction Shot, the only difference being that the target will now move. The wall will get its face back, and 3 more TNT barrels must be thrown at it to make Captain Fishook reveal himself. This phase is the same as the other ghost phases.

3 Nikki, Lindsey, & Ginny

These three ladies are the bosses of the Twisted Suites, having a maze-like floor for you to traverse to reach them. They start off by hiding in their hats and throwing playing cards at you. These can be avoided just by getting out of their way. They will then spin around the arena throwing more playing cards. However, these can be knocked away or jumped over by using a Burst.

The rims of their hats will begin glowing and close in on Luigi and the player must use a Burst to knock them over, where Luigi can use the Poltergust on them to reveal one of the sisters. On their own, the sisters aren't very threatening, as they are extremely vulnerable to the Strobulb, allowing for a quick capture.

The rest of the fight will play out very similar except that the remaining sisters will replace their missing ones with a bomb. The player needs to pay attention to the bomb's placement to proceed with this fight, as revealing it when sucking away one of the hats accomplishes nothing.

2 King Boo

The final boss of Luigi’s Mansion 3, King Boo is pretty difficult, and probably the hardest version of King Boo from the three Luigi’s Mansion games. Boo uses his extremely long tongue to hit Luigi, which can be avoided using a Burst. Boo will also throw fireballs from his crown that roll across the floor. Just stay out of their way to not get hit by these.

He will finally throw a giant spiked ball that will break revealing 3 bombs, and Luigi must pick up and throw one of them into his mouth to use the Poltergust on him. Both Luigi and Gooigi are needed for the Poltergust's suction to be strong enough to work.

Dealing With King Boo's Copies

King Boo Boss Fight From Luigi's Mansion 3

King Boo will then make a copy of himself to deal out more attacks. The copy can be differentiated from the real one thanks to its lower number of fangs and dimmer eyes. They will use the same lightning attack from the first phase, followed by an attack where they both slam onto the ground. Luckily, their shadows reveal where they're going to land. Shockwaves from this attack can be dodged using a Burst.

They will then use the fireball attack again, followed by the tongue attack. The tongue attack comes with a new variation that just requires running under it at the right time to avoid damage. They end this phase by throwing more of those spiked balls that contain bombs, and a bomb must be fired at the real King Boo to deal damage.

The third and final phase is very similar but with a few new additions of a 4-minute time limit, 3 King Boos at once, and a new bomb swarm attack that Luigi can use the Poltergust's blowing feature to avoid.

1 Clem

Underwater bosses are always on the harder side of difficulty in Mario games and Clem is not an exception. The player uses the Poltergust to control Luigi while riding on a pool float in an arena mostly surrounded by spikes. Clem will attempt to hit Luigi with his paper fan, an attack that can be avoided just by moving away from him.

After he uses this attack, he will get dizzy, giving Luigi a chance to grab the head of Clem's float using the Poltergust and then firing it at some of the spikes. This will cause Clem to land outside of the arena, where Luigi can use the Strobulb to go and deal damage. The player can also place Gooigi outside of the arena during this part. This is immensely helpful, as this allows a switch to Gooigi whenever Clem gets knocked out of the arena, saving lots of time.

The fight will repeat this exact same pattern, with the addition of mines added to the water, which explode when touched after a few seconds.
