Yet another trailer has been released for Lord of the Rings: War in the North, this one in preparation for big gameplay reveals at this year’s E3. We’ve already seen that the combat in War in the North, as opposed to previous LOTR titles, can be extremely brutal, but there are a few details still to uncover.

Following a storyline that runs concurrent to the events of the J.R.R. Tolkien books/Peter Jackson films, War in the North drops players in the midst of…you guessed it, the war in the northern regions.

Utilizing the cooperative play gamers have come to expect from developer Snowblind Studios, War in the North promises to be the be-all role-playing experience for fans of the genre. While early trailers for the game have focused more on the melee combat moments, this trailer showcases some more epic set pieces that are typical of the Lord of the Rings series — many of which feature the appearance of larger-than-life enemies and allies (giant bird FTW).

This particular trailer is in preparation for the E3 unveiling of a new mechanic: the great eagle Beleram. After breaking Beleram out of the ruins of Fornost, the fellowship of three is then bequeathed the ability to call upon Beleram to bail them out of sticky situations. From the looks of the trailer, it seems like Beleram is the “win button.”

Along with the new trailer, Warner Bros. Interactive also sent over a select group of screenshots that showcase the locale of Fornost as well as a few enemies players will encounter while there. Check them out below:

As more and more of the gameplay mechanics of War in the North reveal themselves, it's hard not to feel that Snowblind Studios was tailor-made for this project. By blending their role-playing familiarity with a much more mature Lord of the Rings storyline, Snowblind just keeps taking this title higher and higher on our most anticipated list.

Game Rant plans to get some significant hands-on time with Lord of the Rings: War in the North at this year’s E3, so check back here next week for our early impressions of the game.
