One LEGO to rule them all. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter and now The Lord of the Rings. Many gamers fond of Middle-earth may not have to wait too long before the next LEGO video game comes from The Lord of the Rings franchise.
There are many franchises that fans may want to become the next LEGO video game, and some already have their own videos: Modern Warfare 3, Gears of War and Halo, but what could be more epic than a full-scale trilogy of games featuring everyone’s favorite Hobbits? LEGO may have not milked the Harry Potter franchise for all its worth with a game for each movie — then again, who would want that? — but The Lord of the Rings has so much substance and action within each story that each could easily be a stand alone game, including the upcoming pair of films for The Hobbit.
There is no confirmation for a LEGO Lord of the Rings video game, but LEGO and Warner Brothers have officially announced that a Danish toy company has picked up the rights to start production on playsets based on both Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film trilogy and The Hobbit movies parts one and two. The news did not come with any mention to a video game tie-in.
The likelihood that these games are actualized is high as Harry Potter, Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean all have their own playsets and have done well as video games. The next logical step for LEGO to continue growing their video game franchise would be to have Traveller’s Tales adapt a series for LOTR and The Hobbit. Fans of the toys can get their hands on the LOTR playsets starting next Summer.
Ranters, would you like to see a LEGO Lord of the Rings/Hobbit game series or is there another franchise you would like to see become LEGOized instead?
