Logitech G230 Headset Review

For most PC gamers, a good quality gaming headset is just as important as a decent mouse and keyboard. But, as with mice and keyboards, there are tons of options to choose from — some catered to the spending conscious gamer, others geared towards the tech savvy PC builder, and others for someone who sits perfectly in the middle. Enter the Logitech G230 Stereo Gaming Headset, a wired headset that could be just what the average gamer needs.

Audio quality with the G230 is superb with very few, if any, pops or hisses during hours of playtime. Even at max volume, the G230 delivers superior quality sound, without any unnecessary interference.

It's important to note, however, that the G230 is a stereo not a surround sound headset, so audiophiles might want to bump up to the G430 if they're looking for a more robust, multi-directional sound. But those gamers who feel that stereo gets the job done and want to save an extra $20 will find that the audio quality the G230 delivers is crisp and clean, as it should be.

Alongside a crisp, clean sound, the G230 is also built with extremely comfortable earpieces which allow for long play sessions. The cloth ear cups don't cause any irritation, they aren't bothersome, and most importantly they're extremely light. After several hours of continuous use, I felt only a minimal amount of discomfort.

Logitech G230 Review - Mute Controls

In addition to solid input technology and support, the G230 boasts a folding, noise cancelling mic with on-cable controls for quick muting. Quality-wise the mic delivered decent, not perfect, audio, making it ideal for gaming with friends. I found that the noise-cancelling did wonders to eliminate any unwanted background noise, and made it so my teammates could hear me clearly.

The mic's audio was on par with the Giotek EX-05 headset, but the clarity was a little lacking. In other words, recordings sound like you're using a gaming headset for audio.

At the same time, this is a gaming headset, so audio output quality isn't going to be a necessity. But those who are looking for the G230 to double as a podcast mic or something like that might come away disappointed.

Overall, the G230 suited my gaming needs nicely, with solid audio input and output. As well, the earpieces feel nice and light, and did not cause any appreciable irritation after prolonged use.

The Logitech G230 might not be the flashiest gaming headset available, but what it lacks in terms of bells and whistles it more than makes up for in a smart, comfortable design and crisp clean audio. For a very reasonable price point of $59.99, the Logitech G230 is a solid gaming headset that will suit the average PC gamer nicely.

The Logitech G230 Stereo Gaming Headset is available now for $59.99.
