Sony Godfather Knitting Sackboy

When Sony posted a countdown on their website depicting nothing more than a Don Corleone-esque tuxedoed man knitting, the internet speculation began immediately. Was this the announcement of a new Godfather title? Perhaps connected to the release of PS3-exclusive Mafia II DLC? Are those two guys really just standing there watching him knit?

A few days have since passed, and the shadowed man's progress has revealed that the subject of his crocheting is one that should be familiar to all:

Yes, that's right Ranters, the man is knitting himself a Sackboy. This development, along with the presence of game logos buried in the site's Flash code make it clear that what the mustachioed man is counting down to is LittleBigPlanet 2. I know, I know, I was hoping for a Move-enabled knitting title too; I'd already purchased my "KNTN HERO" vanity license plates bought and paid for!

Oh well. It's still unclear what the countdown is specifically counting down to, and Sony isn't saying peep. Since the release of the game is still a ways away, could it be safe to assume that this is Sony's way of announcing a potential beta test? If the recent trailers are any sign, LittleBigPlanet 2 will feature more creation tools than we have ever seen before, so a test-drive with invited users would definitely be a good idea.

So until anymore details surface, let the next round of rumors and speculation commence!

What are your thoughts, Ranters? Have the numerous glimpses of gameplay and details of the Special Edition gotten you at a fever pitch for the release of LBP 2? Or was your experience with the first title similar to mine: obviously a fantastic accomplishment, but not the revolution I was expecting? I'm definitely holding out hope that Media Molecule's follow-up will be the user-oriented game creation kit I wanted the first game to be, instead of yet another opportunity to observe the work of more gifted gamers.

Beta invite or no, LittleBigPlanet 2 is set to hit shelves Nov.16. Until then, you can head over to the countdown site to keep an eye on the Mafia Don's progress.
