Deadpool 3 is still a ways away, but one actor may be hinting at a return to the franchise as it shifts to the MCU. Shatterstar actor Lewis Tan shared a cryptic tweet to his social media that has fans wondering if he’ll be returning as the mutant in Ryan Reynold's next outing as the Merc With the Mouth.

If Tan does return in Deadpool 3, he won’t be the only mutant to be making a return from Fox's X-Men universe. Deadpool 3 is already set to bring back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and it has even been implied that the movie might not exactly be a third Deadpool film, but a new film with an entirely new title that incorporates Wolverine into it.

On his Twitter, Tan shared a series of emojis referencing his character from the second Deadpool film. He hashtagged it as #Deadpool3 and did not share any further details about it. While the latter two emojis reference Deadpool himself, the first two are an alien and two swords crossed, referencing Shatterstar's origin as an alien gladiator from Mojoworld.

Deadpool 2 introduced a slew of new characters. In his quest to save a mutant boy (Julian Dennison), Deadpool set out to form X-Force. Among these characters was Shatterstar, a mutant with superhuman senses. He promptly dies alongside most of the X-Force on their first mission.

Fortunately, it appears multiversal shenanigans in the sequel could mean that Shatterstar is alive and well in Deadpool 3's storyline. With Deadpool being such a meta character, it’s the perfect time to poke fun at the Multiverse Saga that is currently unfolding within the MCU. It's easy to imagine Deadpool being shocked that his X-Force comrades are alive and well in another universe. It remains to be seen if they'll stay alive and well after meeting Deadpool a second time.

This also allows some actors to return to the MCU as it integrates mutants into its storyline. Tan's possible return could be a different universe's version of the character, but it's also possible he could be playing the MCU version of Shatterstar. If that's the case, other actors and actresses could return to some of the roles that had potential but weren't fully explored (Domino, played by Zazie Beetz, comes to mind).

Deadpool 3 hits theaters on November 8, 2024.
